This is what I got.
"Thank you for your interest in the Microsoft Computing Safety Index evaluation. Unfortunately, due to your computer's current software configuration you are not eligible for this particular study. We appreciate that you took the time to participate and we look forward to inviting you to a future study. "
Wonder what they mean by that?
I got a 90 but the first time I got 80 because they asked if I used a secure wireless network. I said no because I don't use any wireless network so they penalized me for that. They should fix that question.
Did it with my windows machine and got 82; happy with that.
Would have had a higher score, but I don't have updates set to automatic.
You have to select NO for that question.. (I had to also)Quote:

Dude - That is because Win98 no longer has current security updates to fix known security loopholes.
What im saying is I PICKED NO AND IT LET ME TAKE IT :)
Exactly. If you are using Win98, and you are connected to the Internet, then you don't have any security, so there is no need to take the test. If you are not using Win98, but one of the other operating systems listed, then you may have some security, so you can take the test. Since Win98 is no longer receiving security updates, it has unpatched security loopholes that allow an attacker to compromise it without any action by the user if it is connected to the internet.
Yes well not having a 'SMART FILTERING' firewall ISNT A GOOD THING (on ANY os) casue then like you say, they can easily try to affect someone...
The "user" is still the weakest link. :o)
64. I have no wireless network and I do no social networking. I was penalized for those.
You're on the best computer help site in the world, and you're using 98SE? Nothing has sunk in? What have you done with your 1,851 posts?
(I was having my knee replaced when this was posted, so I'm making up for lost time. I still have to do most of Nov, + Dec, Jan and Feb. )
I love Win98se,its one of the BEST os's they ever released in the Win Series :)
You're unique, Dude.
Thank you for the kind words my friend :)
Well I value my privacy MORE THAN MOST these days and I do not trust the newer OS's @ all..... (That plus i dont like how they look as much)
I think THE BEST WAY to try and limit spying so ONLY YOUR ISP SEES YOUR STUFF is to use OLDER STUFF from before the intrusive phase started.... (Software, etc) Then you know nothing you use is spying on you.... (The only thing you can get away from is your ISP (very easily anyway))
Microsoft started locking down Windows, taking away things the end user could do with the SP4 update on Win2000 .... (All OS's before that are in the clear as far as privacy, end user customisation, etc)
Its important to be able to MAINTAIN any privacy you still can, especially now!!
That's true of some applications, but the internet has changed and has become a super-spy. You're still on the internet, and you're not safe on your old system unless you disconnect entirely.
As far as outward appearance, Win XP doesn't look so very different from 98SE, it's still very much in use, and is reasonably secure with all the updates.
