I quite often get the odd update that fails to install. Usually all it needs is to reboot and try again.
On those framework updates, they wnt to install one at a time and to install one at a time with a reboot in between. Anyway worked for me on a clients computer.

Install one at the time, and reboot each time did not seem to work for me.
I decided to go to security updates for microsoft.NET framework 4 to manually download KB2468871 & KB2539636 : successful installations.
I reran to windows updates: only KB2533523 left to be install.
MS.NET framework 4 security updates did not find the file KB2533523 to be downloaded.
Any suggestion? SuperSparks or Train?

I also read the article about error 643. The problem belongs to MS.

I might have to leave this recalcitrant KB2533523 for a few days, until MS finds the way to fix the problem.

Shut it down tonight, it then probably install tomorrow.

Hurray! I did it! KB2533523 manually installed successfully, with the link you gave me : from the link website, I navigated to the Microsoft.NET framework 4 reliability update (KB2533523), then downloaded the file:)

I had very same issue today and I had to run manual installation as well.
All installed fine on my laptop though...
Go figure...
Myself, I didn't have any issues with any of my machines, for once :)
One Vista and Win 7 got everything the first try. But one Vista had to go back a 2nd time to get the rest.
On my PC, the two Updates for .NET Framework 4 (not the security updates) were labelled "Important" but not chosen by MS for Updating with the first batch of 12. After doing the 12 I went back to Windows Updates and got the two for .NET Framework 4. No problems.
Happened to me too!! GRRR! I had a 64-bit Win 7 laptop that did fine but the 32-bit Win 7 netbook choked every time. I finally restored back to a before updates image, downloaded them all manually and then installed without any issues. (I haven't installed .NET Framework 4 yet so that update fun is yet to come someday...)
I am also having this same problem. KB2468871, KB2533523 and KB39636 will not install. I tried 5 times. The relaibility update appears to be for 64 bit only. I am running WinXP SP3 32 bit. I have 2 other computers with same OS and updates installed last week with no problem. All 3 computers have netframework version 4 installed.
Googling these updates indicates that many people are having this same problem.
Anyone found a solution?
