[RESOLVED] ADI981A Driver

Is there a site I can just download the ADI981A driver w/o joining something?

That's the motherboard part number, but you would need to search their site with the system number.

Thanks for replying!

I have been to the Gateway site and I looked for the 4000792 but, as you say, that is the motherboard number. I don't know what the system number is or how to find it. I was told to get the number off the sound chip and use it. There are sites that say they have the driver but I don't want to pay for it if I don't need to. I have been to Intel's site and what I downloaded from them didn't work. What they told me was to go to Gateway's site. So, if you can tell me how to get the system number, that would be great! It's a real fun time when the CD is missing with the drivers on it.

Doesn't it say the model number on the case somewhere? When you go into the bios, does it mention model?

Otherwise, you'll have to backtrack and search for models that use the 4000792 board, then get the driver off the website.

ADI981A is SoundMax, not Intel.

Got the model number 500SE. So I ran the file and then it said "Microsoft bus driver should be installed before installing Realtec". I'm at a loss now.

You need the chipset driver 6.0.1.1002 but Mk is more familiar with Intel boards.

Realtec? I already said ADI981A is SoundMax.

That's the wrong model number. The specs for the 500SE show an AMD K6-2 CPU. Totally different socket.

Something is not jiving on the Gateway support site then.

It looks like there are some dells that use the same chipset. Try the drivers for the GX260.

Depending on service pack installed/not installed with Windows XP,
May be an issue with UAA.

With that said,
No comment on audio drivers, since you did not state the actual model of the Gateway in question and provided serial number is in doubt.

If familiar with the process,
You can try identifying the model via the BIOS menu and/or BIOS string displayed during POST.

Is the GX260 on the Gateway site or the Dell site? I can't seem to find it on either. The model number on the case is 500SE. The case could have been changed but I don't know. When I went to the UAA and it looked for a file it started to load and then I got this message that said:
Setup cannot copy the file SOUNDMAN.EXE Insure that the location specified below is correct or change it and insert Realtec AC97 Audio Driver Disk in the drive you specify. And in the screen below that it says copy file from: "C:\windows\temp" in blue. The chip on the motherboard is an "ADI 981A" so I don't understand why it is asking for a Realtec driver.

I can assure you I tried the link. I looked all over for anything that said GX260. Is it the "Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio? I used Everest to post the specs. I really do appreciate all your efforts!

When I click on the file I get this message: Important note. When selecting "install now" you must select "open". The only choices I get when doing this is "run" "save" "cancel" or "help". I tried selecting "run" just to see and get a message"Error installing ikernal.exe (0x10000). I tried to find a read only file to see if there were any special instructions but had no luck. When I start the computer I get a message that says "found new multimedia" and when it starts loading the driver (I guess that is what it is doing) it says "AC'97 Realtec Audio" and after running awhile it says "Cannot copy file SOUNDMAN.EXE".

Thanks for the reply!
I followed the instructions and it started to load soundmax. A screen came up "Driver not found. Reboot your system and run this setup again." I have been there before. Then I get a screen that says "Launched C:\docume~1\admini~1\locals~1\temp\sa10sndx.exe." and it asks me to reboot. So when I reboot I get the same "found new hardware Realtek AC'97 audio." And it starts loading then a screen comes up "Cannot copy file SOUNDMAN.EXE."

I know you like to find solutions to problems but I am giving up on this. Either I am not giving you the info you need or there is some other problem. I put an old Soundblaster card in. I really do appreciate all the help!
