[RESOLVED] Possible spyware/webpage redirection in Yahoo mail
Ok to start computer was just reformatted last friday night. Running XP SP3 with all updates applied. I have been trying out Firefox instead of using IE8. Now when I go to my Yahoo Email and without even opening any email I get redirected to a different website. Most of the time it is about taking a survey to get an iphone or something like that. Now this does not happen all the time. I delete cookies and anything else that can be deleted before I close FF. All scans came up clean…Avast, ran superantispyware, bit defender online, windows defender …all clean.
Dled Trend Micro Web Protection Add-On To see if it would tell me what if anything was going on when I went to Yahoo's site. Well first the lil pop up window told me something about malicious software and to go to their website to run Housecall. which I did and it came up clean. So then I dled Spybot and ran that in safe mode. It won't run on here any other way. That came up clean. I had to uninstall the Web Protection Add-On because it would not let me go anywhere on the internet..even to this site.
Now to note something not sure if it’s related or unrelated….before reformat I had gotten an email in Yahoo mail from someone on the Freecycle yahoo group responding to something I posted. When I opened to view the email I got a pop up saying I had a virus and it was running a scan Yadda Yadda. Closed the window and tried viewing the email again and got the same pop up. Then did anti virus scan and it found a few in temp folders. So that led me to the reformat.
Is this a problem with Yahoo mail? I have tried IE and going to Yahoo mail and haven’t had the redirection, but like I said it does not happen all the time in Firefox.
I am at a loss as to what this problem is but every scan is coming up clean. Thank you for any ideas.
