I wiped wifes hd on her toshiba planing on using recovery disk that came with it to pass puter on to grandkid. But now using the system recovery disk it gives an error 03-ffff-0000 says that it doesnot support this model. It is the recovery disk that came with the laptop, any ideas?

I wiped hd with cbl shreader and still same error, I am sure it is an l45 model and this is the correct recovery disk

Shimma sent same link. Talked to toshiba support and they said I deleted a file that supports the recovery disk. I find that hard to believe . What if i Put new hd in it does that mean I cannot use the disk. That is not very good support
Sounds like I wiped out hidden partition needed to us recovery disk.Just dont understand why they had to do that

You could always put Ubuntu on it, it's a pretty impressive OS, and your grandkid might really like it.

Ok so I give up the recoverys disk option, Knowing that there is a good hd on the laptop I tryed now to install xp and it says there is no hard drive there. I need a start and where do I begin. The hd looking in bios says

It's possible that the DMI info on the motherboard got messed up. Was the motherboard replaced or is the system a refurb?Quote:

If you want to install XP, make sure the SATA is set to IDE mode in the bios.
Nope none of the above, Sorry cant find in bios where to set sata to IDe
What is the exact model number? L40 is the series number. You would need a Toshiba tech to do the DMI update for you anyway.
Make sure to check all the pages of the Toshiba bios. There should be some SATA or Hard drive controller settings. Otherwise, you'll have to use a floppy and F6 option, or slipstream a new XP disc with the SATA drivers. It's much easier to flip the IDE compatibility setting in the bios.

So you downloaded the SATA controller drivers and loaded them from a floppy using the F6 option? Otherwise, you would need to slipstream the drivers onto a new CD, but you would still have to download the SATA drivers.
Can you list the BIOS options you see? I find it odd that there isn't an IDE or PATA mode for the SATA controller.
Nope I didnt ,First of all the is no floppy..2ND i dont understand the dowloading sata drivers..I have a Toshiba laptop I nuked and wanting to install os on it and it says there is no o/s..or hd..Does toshiba have there own hd they install that no one else can format and use or what
If you didn't download the drivers to floppy and load them from a USB floppy drive, then you didn't use the F6 option properly.
Either find the IDE mode for SATA or download/slipstream the SATA drivers. Those are you options if you want to load XP.

U guys are killin me,,Guess I might have to say I officially killed this notebook with a perfectly fine hd and mb and memory but I am to stupid to install a o/s on it cause toshiba decided to embed this, I do have bootable dmi toshiba recovery disk I burned, lets see if this works///
