password.stealer
When running Malware Bytes on a laptop with Vista, the same items keeping coming back. Even though it says it will be deleted on reboot, it does not. Here are some of them:
password.stealer
backdoor.net
trojan.agent
rootkit.rustock
worm.autorun
im.worm
heuristics.reserved.wordexploit
I've read that some of these are fake and are not threats. The computer runs fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe- Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Scan to run express scan. Click OK in pop-up window to allow scan.
- This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
- Once the short scan has finished, select Complete scan.
- Click the green arrow https://discussions.virtualdr.com/im.../2010/11/6.jpg at the right, and the scan will start.
- Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
- When the scan has finished, in the menu, click File and choose Save report list
- Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
- Close Dr.Web Cureit.
- Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
- Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
NOTE. During the scan, pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.
Post fresh HijackThis log as well.
-
Is there an alternative to Dr Web Cure it? At the rate it is going it would appear to take about 10 hours to complete.
-
The bigger the hdd/partition the longer it takes. :(
-
If it's stuck, let me know.
If it shows some progress, let it run (as Train says). It's a very good program.
-
Tried running it and midway through the computer rebooted itself. Got a message that said Windows had an unexpected shutdown.
-
Download, and install AVP Tool.
After installation, leave all settings as they're, and simply click on Scan button.
When scan is done, and any objects are found, click on Neutralize all button.
Next, click Reports... button, then Save to file....
Save the file to know location as report.txt.
Open report.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and post it in your next reply.
Post fresh HijackThis log as well.

Go Start>Control Panel>Add\Remove (Programs and Features in Vista), and...
Uninstall any of the following programs associated with Viewpoint:
* Viewpoint Manager
* Viewpoint Media Player
* Viewpoint Toolbar
This program does not do anything bad such as deliver ads or spy on you, but it is considered foistware ("drive-by-install") as it is installed without your consent through programs like AOl, AIM, Compuserve, etc.
================================================================
Disable Windows Defender, as it'll interfere with cleaning process:
- Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Defender.
- Click Tools
then...
++ Windows XP:
- Click General Settings
- Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
- Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection
- After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
- Close Windows Defender
++ Windows Vista:

Except for uninstalling Viewpoint, nothing else was "fixed".
Please, try again.
-
We've tried twice to remove and they keep coming back. We'll try again. Any suggestions about why they keep coming back?
-
Are you sure, you turned Windows Defender off?
I'm not only talking about two O2 entries, but also about a bunch of O4 entries.

Some of the items are still there...

This is good :)
I was mostly concerned about those two O2 and O3 entries, because they're Norton's leftovers.
Your computer is clean https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.
2. Turn off System Restore:
- Windows XP:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK
3. Restart computer.
4. Turn System Restore on.
5. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.
6. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!
7. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.
8. Run defrag at your convenience.
9. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html
10. Please, let me know, how is your computer doing.

Thanks for all of your help. When I just ran the updated version of Malware, all of the same results were still there. Should this not be taken seriously? The log is below.

This is not good...
First of all, MBAM says "No action taken" after each line, so you need to re-run it and this time, make sure, you FIX all those entries.
Post fresh log.
-
Also...
Upload following files to http://www.virustotal.com/ for security check:
- explorer.exe located @ C:\Windows
- userinit.exe and svchost.exe located @ C:\Windows\System32
Post scans results.

Let's re-run Combofix...
Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
[list=1][*]Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.[*]Close any open browsers.[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
- Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
- Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
- Close any open browsers.
- WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
- Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
- If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
- Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it will produce a report for you.
- Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.
DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!
-
Using CA anti virus and anti spyware. Cannot shut the spyware scan. After un-checking it keeps coming back and combofix detects it.
-
It's OK. Run Combofix anyway.

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:- Combofix.txt
- A new HijackThis log.
-
When we dragged CFScript to Combofix, we got a dialog box from CA antivirus (which we forgot to disable), saying that combofix was an infected file, and the shortcut disappeared. Since then we have been unable to re-download combofix.
-
CA should have been disabled while running Combofix. Please, pay close attention to my instructions.
Uninstall Combofix:
Go Start > Run [Vista users, go Start>"Start search"]
Type in:
Combofix /Uninstall
Note the space between the "Combofix" and the "/Uninstall"
Restart computer.
Download fresh copy from HERE and re-run my script.
Make sure, CA is disabled.
I renamed Combofix file for a reason.
-
There are no results when we try to find the combofix uninstall file. Should we just go ahead and download the fresh copy?
