Saw this article reporting that the IE/Firefox market share is 78%/16%.

I've always looked here for market share:

Which shows IE/FF at 54%/41.5%.
Which one do you believe?

In no way would I believe W3 schools, that's mostly visited by people that are pretty technical to begin with, so the numbers are going to be skewed.
I normally use IE, but lately I've been messin' with the latest version (3) of Firefox. Seriously thinking of switching to FF. It has some very nice features that I like....i.e. saving a tabbed session upon exiting the browser so it comes up on the next session.
In looking at the statistics, you have to take into account that a heck of of a lot of those IE users (the "market share") are just your average home users and use it simply because it is the default browser that came with Windows. They may not even know they have a choice. :D
Every other tabbed browser has had that feature. Firefox only recently added it as a native feature, meaning it did not require an extension

I have to agree as most of them are probably trying to get a webpage to act right in that browser, or something of that nature.
I'd put it this way:
- computer un-savvy people - IE 80%, FF 20%
- computer savvy people - IE 20%, FF 80%
More, or less...
I disregarded other browsers, which market share is very marginal.

Savvy people fit pretty well into that 20% :)
I've tried FF and just don't like it. Maxthon and Opera work best for me. The only time I use IE is when I click on it by mistake :p
Maxthon 1, last build. Tried 2 but I didn't like it as much. I had
various problems customizing the search, autofill and ad blocking features
in ver 2... but it was mostly the search which I use a lot.
And I recall there was some issue I had with the clean history
(cache) option... Was months ago and I don't remember the specifics.
I also use Avant browser occasionally. It has a good auto login feature that
I use to check various webmail accounts.
Perhaps we should have a poll on which browser everyone uses (with multiple selections).
AFAIK, FF always gets its ideas from Opera. I'm going to try out that Maxthon though!

and to answer JP ... Maxthon 1 rocks .. I don't like Maxthon 2. I can't seem to customize it quite the way I like it.

Best feature in Maxthon (and Avant) is mouse gestures. I set up the mouse to scroll back and forth in webpages by simple left/right mouse holds and clicks. Hold left button/click right to go forward, Hold right button, click left to go back.
Mouse movements are also able to perform various browsing tasks but I don't use them much.
I'm using version 1 as well, although I've managed to get version 2 pretty close to where I like. There's just a few little things about version 1 that I prefer, and version 2 uses as much resource as Firefox or Opera do. One of the things I liked about Maxthon was its low resource use.

Currently using FF 2.0, had to roll back from FF3 which locked every click :mad: have dabled with Opera 9.50 but it didn't get on with Yahoo messenger, but was very impressed with its speed (low resource?), so still use it as a pure browser.
ie I only use with bbc iPlayer (tho I hear there is a FF patch available) which I will eventually check out.
Never heard of maxthon, but will check it out :)
Thank you all for reminding me of Maxton. I tried it years ago on an XP system, must have been v1, and did not like it as much as Firefox then. I installed v2 and quite like it. It seems much faster than Firefox 3 on my system.
it is faster on my vista system, i like maxthon a lot just went to 2 and am liking it so far
I've tried Maxthon two, and while it does render pages a little faster, it's just not yet usable for me. Maybe one day.
