how do i remove ask.com...?
I am using IE7 on a Vista machine. Google is my preferred search engine. Any entry in the search bar (the IE7 search bar) uses Google. If, however, I type a search word or phrase into the address bar, IE7 uses Ask.com as the default search engine. I would like to change this. I have looked in the internet option settings of IE7 and in the Add/Remove programs area of Vista. No luck.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. FireFox will not allow me to change my homepage away from ASK.COM. I can make the change in TOOLS->OPTIONS, but when I close FireFox ASK.COM takes over, and the next time I load FireFox, ASK.COM is there once again!?!?!?
IE7 will accept the change, FireFox 3 will not.
Here's what I have done:
- Inside my registry, I removed ASK.COM.
I removed the ASK Toolbar from CONTROL PANEL->ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
I used HighJackThis to view BHO's; ASK.COM is not there.
I visited ASK.COM's FAQ....... #7 ("How can I find____?") does not apply.
FireFox just will not let go of ASK.COM!
BTW, no new topic needed, it's still the same thing: ASK.COM.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You'll have to go to "about:config" (type it in the FF address bar), and scroll down to the browser.search options, and reset all the ones that say "ASK" to google.
You'll then need to re-scroll, paying special attention to the rightmost side. Anytime something comes up with "ask.com" in it, reset it or change to Google.
There's an option that has something to do with key terms, and you'll need to make sure you switch that one too. It'll be a long string/url then will need to be reset.
Hopefully that works. Don't change anything else in the about:config, because it will mess up your other settings.
