I need to reformat a small pc I have that has Win 98SE installed on it. Don't have the money to upgrade it right now or even in the near future. If I reformat it how do I get all the updates to the O/S that I had gotten up until Microsoft stopped making new updates and patches. Will they show up at microsofts site or is there a spot on their site where I can dl them and burn them to a cd then install them when I reformat? Thanks

When MS discontinued updates to Win98SE, it issued a free CD that could be ordered with all of the updates. I probably still have it. Check with your friends and colleagues first but if I can find it I could copy and mail it to you - send me a PM, and I'll let you know.

Does anybody know where I can get the USB update for Windows 98 without gong through Driversguide.com? I can't seem to get an account to work on there for some reason and I dont have forever to hassle with it.
Should be in the M$ updates.

ok. I gotta clarify. Sorry. I have 98. Not the second edition. Just straight 98. I need the USB mouse drivers. I cannot find them on the M$ help site. I'm downloading the autopatcher supplied in the link. I do not know if it works with the standard 98 but I'm going for it. :)
98 was even rougher than 98SE when it come to usb.
Why I just used the USB to PS/2 adapter and still do.
Yeah I got one of those but my PS/2 port, my pc can see it sometimes. And sometimes it can't. It's like a bad connection.Quote:

Well I went for it. It screwed up some Winapi or iphpapi.dll file or some such and now I can't get ti to stop freezing upon l9oad up. Upon reboot system restore automatically tries to restore the file but it just craps out.Quote:

figured it out.
Booted it in safe mode. It freezes up because I installed the wg311t drivers without the files 98 needs to see the lan card. So one program was calling another program/dll that wasn't installed and I guess it was just freezing up. That's my best guess on what was happening.
So I stopped the wg311t drivers from loading at startup and it boots fine now.
wg311t - SUPER-G WIRELESS PCI ADAPTER
Those type of drivers have caused problems.

I have had good luck hitting yard sales once in a while and being able to get those 98 cds still in the factory sealed boxes. Even got Dreamweaver that way.
