Sad news

It is with great sadness that I must pass along the news of Big John's passing.
He was taken by a massive heart attack which occured as he slept.
The doctors said he felt no pain and went quickly.
This is hard for me to type.
BJ loved this forum and all the people. He loved to help people.
He will be buried Monday.
I am going to take some time off.

Thanks for letting us know SW. BJ has been a huge part of this forum for many years and his caring and stewardship has made it one of the best places to come to not only for computer help but for friendship and sharing our lives with others as well. It's so sad that he's gone and he'll be missed by all of us. Sincere condolences to all of his family and loved ones.

We loved him too.

OMG! I'm so sorry, my prayers go out to BJ's family. Although we never met it has been 9 years of internet friendship with BJ that I will always treasure. He has definately left his footsteps here at VRDR and VRDR today is because of BJ.

Truly a shocking event and this forum will never begin to realize how much it has lost with BJ's "moving on."

I'm not sad for him, he's gone to a better place. I'm sure as heck sad for his family, loved ones and friends - and for Virtual Doctor. Sad for me, too. We'll all miss him.

Big John had really found a home here at virtual Doctor. He spent a lot of time on his computer both because he liked doing computer things and because he liked helping other people. He went out of his way to find solutions to people's computer problems so that they could continue to enjoy their computers the way he enjoyed his.
We became neighbors because I moved near him.
We became friends because he was the type of guy you wanted as a friend and were glad to have as a friend.
It was easy to be John’s friend because he could overlook things that would annoy other people.
The forum will not be the same without him, and the neighborhood won’t be the same either.
I know he will be missed by so many people, all around the world. And he will be missed here at home.

I am so sorry for your loss, SW. On more than one occasion over the years, BJ was the voice I needed to hear. This is a loss that'll be felt by thousands.

I too am deeply saddened by this news. My condolances to you Sidewinder and the rest of BJ's family. I only knew him from vdr and singshot but he will be sorely missed. I count him as one of my friends. It won't be the same without him. I'm really sad. Bye BJ.

I know that most may not know me here, I have had my account for some time, but never was never active here.

I give credit to BJ and VDR for the birth of Amazingtechs.

Just heard the sad news elsewhere.
I can't imagine a VDR without BJ.
He's been a part of this place since near the beginning. We went thru a lot since then and he was really a big cog in this forum even before he was Admin.
He was a good friend to me (and many, many more).
Many of VDR alumni are spread around the net as LJ mentioned, and I believe all would call him a friend.

My best wishes to everyone at this sad time.

When I opened this thread I coundn't believe what I was reading. He was such a major part of The VirtualDR website. God, he'll be missed by so many. My Condolences to his family. RIP Big John.

News came to me over at techguy.org where I hang out these days -- by way of Ghouldini.

I haven't been posting here -- but I certainly remember Big John fondly and like others am very saddened by the news.

It's been 12 hours since I heard the news and it still hasn't sunk in. Thanks BJ for including me in this great site. My thoughts are with you SW and your family.

I just got an Email about this. My sympathy goes to his family.

I never met him either, but always got along great with him over the past 7 years. He will truly be missed.

I haven't been to this board in a few years, but like so many others that posted before me, this is where it all started. We all became "friends" over the years, or as close to friends as Internet Forum users can possibly become. I'm just sorry that it took a tragic event like this to pull us all together again in one place.

BJ was a hell of a guy and we will all miss him. :(

I'll always be thankful to BJ for the internet friendship. We had many, many good exchanges. I finding this hard to take in.....just won't be the same without him. He will be sorely missed. RIP my friend.

When I came into this job, BJ was 1 of those people who made it so easy for me to transition, that I wasn't even aware I was going through one. THere is no replacing him, so I'm not going to try.

I still can't come to terms with the loss of BJ, it has been an honour and a privelege to know him since I joined, and to be a part of his mod crew. I will surely miss him.

i have not been around for a while due to health problems but my sincere condolences to his family and his virtual family here

i only spoke with BJ a few times but participated in many threads and read many things he posted, some with aww at his knowledge and patience

I can't help but post to say how much I miss him again. He was a pretty good singer over at sing shot and he sort of got me started over there too. He was my biggest fan, I ain't that good a singer, but he and SW made me feel like I was. Gonna really miss him.

Someone else said he would go the extra mile to help. That he did. It if weren't for guys like him and others here at vdr I'm sure I wouldn't know half what I know about computers. And that isn't even a drop compared to BJ.

I think God needed help with his computer, thus he called BJ home to fix it. Rest in peace BJ.

I don't post very much at all, but I do come in to browse 3 to 4 times a week, and BJ has impressed me with his gentleness and sincerity.
Peace be to BJ's family and friends, and all forum members who were close to him.

Indeed Sad News. I had seen the title of the thread yesterday, but kept passing up opening it. I was shocked to see what it said when I opened it today.
As far as I could tell from just a few digital exchanges, BJ was a true gentleman. All these posts are a testament to that.

Sad news indeed. This forum is one of the most helpful and best administered/moderated that I have found. With poppy4 and Big John both gone we have all lost valued members of the community.
