IE7 install goes to wrong partition
Running XP Pro on my desktop, have a 160 GB HD I divided into 5 partitions, C:\ - H:\. My C:\ is strictly for Windows and 'staple' programs: AV, Firewall, and Printer software. All other programs are on D:\. My E:\ partition is for media (photos, music).
IE 6 has been very unstable for me lately, hogging resources to 100% cpu spikes, so SuperSparks encouraged me to try IE7. So I downloaded IE7, and when I click to extract files, it immediately starts extracting the files to my E:\ drive (photos, etc.). I have no idea why this is happening, and as there's no manual install option to direct it to a specific directory (just select run and files are extracted automatically). So I'm stumped as to what to do next.
Anyone have any ideas?
The Latest on this Annoyance
So,
I unplugged the power to my RAID array, leaving only the C:\ and D:\ drives that are running as master and slave on the same IDE cable in my system on channel 0. (My CD ROM and DVD ROM drives are on channel 1 as master and slave BTW)
The IE7 install tries to expand in the D:\
Which remains consistent with the theme of finding the last drive letter on my system to try to temporarily expand the installation files.
Same results as always...see my earlier posts on the install behavior.
Media Player 11 also exhibits the same install failure as before too.
I tried to unplug the power to the slave drive (D:\) and reboot, virtually eliminating every other drive on my system except for the C:\
My computer will still post but will not boot all the way to the desktop.
So I shut down, restored power to all of my drives and rebooted.
Now my system runs just fine, all drives happy and healthy, IE6 plugging away, media player 9 running like a top.
Does anyone have any clue what the hell is going on with this danged ol' danged ol' machine?
