Hi. I just built the computer I've been talking about. Yes, it's finally done. Well every time I start it up, it goes for about a half of a second, then stops. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Did you assemble this outside the case first? I'm assuming you didn't. but anyway, did you make sure there are no standoffs where there shouldn't be any? Did you use the standoffs? Did you use thermal grease between the cpu and heatsink/fan assembly? All of these can cause shut offs.
Yes, I used thermal grease. And... excuse my noobieness (I had someone help me today) What's a standoff?
A standoff is a small brass object with male screw thread on one end and a female screw receptacle on the other where you put the mobo screws in to hold it to the case. If you get one standoff in the wrong spot, that is where there is no screw hole in the mobo, it can cause your computer to not boot.
Uh, a bunch of these screws came with my case... but just so I'm sure, do you have any pics of them implated in a Mobo?
EDIT: I didnt use any of them :X. I used the normal screws to screw in the motherboard...
I don't have a picture of them installed but the below jpg will show you what they look like. And if you didn't use any of them that came with your case, and you just screwed the motherboard to the bottom of the case....I hope you didn't cause you could very well have shorted your new motherboard.
Also, did you plug in the four pin 12v power cable?
Yes.Quote:

Wow, my friend and I are ubernewbZ!
What about the standoffs? Did you use those?
No. I just used normal screws to screw in the motherboard to the Case. Would that be causing the stopping?
YES You will be lucky if you havent ruined your MB
YES!!! If you didn't use them as I already stated and I see eddds did too, you'll be lucky you didn't ruin/burn up your motherboard.
Remove it now from the case and apply the standoffs, then screw it back down. You might get lucky and not have caused any damage. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Wait... I just removed everything. I hope I'm safe. Should I put the screws in the standoffs?
Yes, the screws go in the standoffs. After you've screwed the standoffs in the case holes. Make sure they line up correctly, because if they don't, you'll still have the same problems.
Worst comes to worst, I RMA. X(
Hope you don't have problems getting a new board. User errors are not usually covered under the warranty. Only those caused by manufacturers.
No, I bought it 7 days ago. RMA for anything within 30 days X) <3's to newegg.com
Right?
Zomg It Works!!! Thank You So Much!
There's one I can't get in. Is that OK, or do I really need to get all of them in?
Obviously it's better to get them all in if you can. But missing one shouldn't be the end of the world.
Yeah, newegg is the best for all your computer hardware needs, and they are really good about RMA stuff.
There's one that just wont go in. Absolutley won't.Quote:

No, it's too high off the platform.Quote:

There's like four that I absolutely cant push in, probably, without breaking the motherboard.
What do you mean, push in? They should screw in, not push in. What case do you have?
***Edit*** never mind. See it in there posted.
Anyone know anything about this issue?
See my above post. I looked at the link JDC2000 posted in your other thread. This case is standard as far as holes go, and the standoffs should screw in, not push in, then the motherboard screws should screw into the standoffs through the motherboard holes. Make sure they are lined up correctly.
I mean, would it be potentially dangerous to run it with 4 screws in it?
standoff's*
It could be dangerous to run only four screws in. What are you not able to install? The standoffs or the motherboard screws?
Wow. JUST WOW. The screwdriver slipped. It starts up for about .5 seconds again...
Standoff's, but forget it. I have to make the whole damned thing again. My screwdriver slipped.
This is really, REALLY, pissing me off. I guess I'll just have to RMA.
I place MB over case lift up take soft point ink pen and circle holes that need a stand off in them as cases are prepunched for different MB's, that way I only get stand offs where they belong for that particular MB. Then place MB on stand offs then using screws that I have prefitted for the stand offs I put in the screws, With very little effort, this shouldnt take a lot's of push or turn to get screws into place and snug
Didn't anyone tell you to be extremely careful when installing the motherboard? If not, they should have. RMA will probably be your only option here. This time, use your fingers to install and tighten the standoffs then install the motherboard and screws. Make sure you have the correct size screwdriver, one that fits into the screws without any sloppy fit.
A Philips #2 is what you need for those screws. Whatever you do, don't use a Pozidriv/Prodrive screwdriver.
While you're getting the motherboard replaced, get some decent brass standoffs and some screws that properly fit them. As Eddds40 says, there really shouldn't be any force or effort at all required.
Ok. Well I guess it's ok to get a new motherboard, whatever. It's actually very tough to get the standoff's screwed in...
