I'm reticent to upgrade as this issue was never resolved http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=197268
I am using it now for about half an hour, and I am amazed! It seems to be a lot faster than before. I also downloaded some great new extensions. Its like seeing it for the first time. I am like a little kid on Christmas eve at the moment :D
Using my dial-up and the increased speed of this version is sweet......very nice...:)
Lost some extensions because of incompatability. Nothing I can't live without.
Installation was swift.
Great thing about this build is that it will update itself. No more having to download the full version and doing an over the top install. It will update all by itself!
When I tried the pre-release I just did an over the top install of 1.0.7.
Is that how you did yours, or uninstall old and install new ?
I think I did see a thread somewhere that the problem I was getting could be resolved by creating a new profile, but I didn't particularly want to do that as I'd loose bookmarks / settings etc.
Maybe I'll try again.
Yes, I did an over the top install. Whatever problems you had with the RC2 is probably fixed now. I would give it a chance and see what happens.
Nix..(read your thread)....IMO......remove the old and try the new.....easy for me to say, you're the one with the problem...:DQuote:

Hey I installed it at work and used it all afternoon with no issues.
I too installed at work but I had issues updating my extensions. I finally gave up and did a complete install. Wiped the profile and all! (Saved the bookmarks and cookies though.) That solved it for me. Ran fine after that.
So, at home, I did the same without even thinking about it. (Yesterday was a long day. I wanted no more issues of any kind!) After installing on 2 PC's, XP Home and 98SE, I'm running with no issues...
Sweet! Did an over-the-top install and no probs.
Much faster!
Thanks.

Many of the extensions are not yet updated to the 1.5 version, and so won't work. I got rid of all my extensions for the last version (1.0.7) and just went through the list of new extensions that I wanted. The only thing which I miss is the good old tab browser extension. Its not officially supported by Firefox, so it may take a little bit until its released. The tab browser extension I downloaded (called Tab Browser Preferances) is not as good.Quote:

Did my 2nd install of FF 1.5 at work and it too went badly. This time I tried an install over the top of FF 1.07. Again, no extension update would run. I dumped 1.5, deleted the original profile, reloaded and all is well.
In both cases, the PCs are running fairly lean and have no malware issues. I guess my personal upgrade approach to FF 1.5 will be to start clean on everything. Hmmm...
To expand on my extension update troubles...
Just read that if a user has software installation blocked in their FF 1.07 profile, it remains blocked in FF 1.5 (where no menu choice exists to undo this action.)
Apparently, if you do the "about:config" (no quotes) in the address bar and scroll down to "xpinstall.enabled" (again, no quotes), you can double click that entry and change the value from false to true. Which should solve the issue.
I'll test it when I get a chance...
**EDIT**
One last post on this subject. The blocked extension update is a known issue and can indeed be fixed as I noted above. You can also work around it by turning on the allow websites to install software checkbox in FF 1.07 and earlier before upgrading to FF 1.5. (I just wish the "issue" would have been made clearer... :( )
I spoke too soon.Quote:

Am now going to try a clean install with new profiles etc.
Strangely I was using the Noia 2.8.1 Lite theme and at work it continued to work, but at home it said it was not compatible with 1.5
So something strange must be going on with my work install.
I've been using it for 24 hours. I had one "Fifefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" earlier in the evening. I've never had that with FF before, I hope thay aren't introducing more bugs than they're fixing. Time will tell I suppose. Other than that I haven't really noticed any difference one way or the other.
Ok after a total uninstall, clean up left over folders (backed up profile), cleaned registry, reboot, install 1.5 create new profile and copy just my bookmarks and reinstall all extensions and themes (3 total) it seems to be working a treat.
Even opened 75 tabs as well as numerous other applications to really test memory usage.
So far sweet.
I've also had FF crash on me once in the last 24 hours, but its also happened to me on occasions with 1.0.X. I'm not worried yet.
I sorely miss the Tabs extension. Gonna check if its been updated to work with 1.5.
Other than my extension update issue, I have had no negative issues at all on any PC...
1.5 working smoothly for me on both the 98SE and XPPro, with the exception of the extensions.....so far so good.
Well after an afternoon of problem free usage, this morning I logged in at work and started up my usual apps and bang FF got the memory read error.
So I'm now thinking it must be related to one of the other apps I'm using causing a memory conflict.
I'm getting FF crashing regularly now  Oh well, I like IE7 beta just as much, if not more.
When I "Tweak Network Settings" to "Power" the next time I start FF the setting is back to the default setting. Anyone else have this problem?
Thought I was going mad ,since I couldn't find the "software installation option".thanks a bunch ,I now have ADBLOCK working once more thanks to your post. :)Quote:

I'm jolly glad I never intalled this monster. I'll stick with 1.0.7 ftb. Well, there's not even a proper English/British version out yet. So why should bother if FF don't.Quote:

The version itself is stable. Any problems with 1.5 is because of incompatible extensions. I had crashes as well, that came as a result of using IE Tabs extension. Other than that, all is good.
Well the only extensions in mine is Adblock, but I'm still getting regular crashes. Windows error reporting says that it is an unknown fault in FF and that there is currently no solution :(
Hey Nick,
Could it be a corrupt download?
I had it installed for about 30 minutes and it crashed 4 times. Dual monitors so I had 2 instances and about 5 tabs each open.
That was enough of that, I went back to 1.0.7
I've noticed that it seems to be caused by certain websites - I can have VDr on it all evening with no problems. The TV guide that I use seems to cause it to crash every time, though not immediately:
www.radiotimes.com
I've got the radio times link open in another tab......and will keep open for a while.....to see if it crashes.
do you get the popup window banner at top of the page about firefox blocking it?......if not, might be the crash cause?
AdBlock doesn't work with 1.5 see the start of http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=341279.Quote:

Anyway I read on one thread on the support forums that the Noia 2 Extreme theme was not compatible with 1.5 even though it claims it is.
I have gone back to using default in the mean time.
There is an Adblock update that works with FF 1.5. The Adblock version is 0.5.2.055. I use it at work on every PC and it has been fine. (At home, I run Ad Muncher.) (There is an extension called Adblock Plus floating around. But I haven't had the guts to try it. I have read it's a hack of the original because the original had not been updated for a long time. Truth is, I have no idea and didn't want to try it.)
On an update note, I must be very lucky. 1.5 is running fine on everything I've placed it on...
Latest version is Adblock 0.5.2.056 ,so it looks like they did some more fixin. :DQuote:
