Try downloading the security patch and save the file to your hard drive and then try an off-line installation to see if this fix your problem. Click Here to download the patch, and then install. You might also need your Windows XP dics handy. Some installation request that the CD be inserted.
The update is already on my computer somewhere? but will not install. The patch will not install because it says it needs the update installed first.... :(Quote:

I didn't know what was relevant or not so I posted what I could from the WindowsUpdate.log... Sure would like to resolve this issue...Quote:

Again, do not download and install from the Microsoft Update website. Download the file and go off-line and do a installation. If this doesn't work then download and run Hijackthis program and submit your log to the Hijackthis forum in Virtualdr.com
I have tried off-line installation without any success. I don't quite understand what you are suggesting with the Hijackthis program... When I posted my problem I was sure there was someone that could help me! I am very concerned about this and any further updates not being installed...Quote:

The .NET Framework is some kind of Website Developers tool and is not neccessary on most pc's. It is offered through Windows Update and many people mistakenly download it with the normal updates.
If you want to keep it then you could try what is outlined here.
I don't have it so I can't check but I'm fairly certain it can be removed through Add/Remove programs. You can also delete the Windows Update Setup Files Folder found in C:\Windows to cure the problem. See the readme.txt in that folder.
Do a file seach of your system for this file name NDP1.1sp1-KB886903-X86.exe and then delete it. As mention by LeurgyThis is true. Mostly for servers and website designers. So is it really that important to you? My mention on the Hijackthis program might remove an programs that might be causeing the problem with any downloads and installation you might have. Some spyware and/or Adware my cause some conflicts.Quote:

The .NET Framework is required to run any app that was developed using Visual Studio .NET, or any of the other .NET development tools. You may or may not need it yet, depending on what you have installed, but you will all be needing it sooner or later, the older development tools are now unsupported.
Bojovan, try uninstalling the .NET Framework from Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, and then reinstall it again and see if you can get the patch to install after that.
I had a similar experience with security updates. Maybe THIS will help.
I want to stop the small yellow shield from showing up in the lower right taskbar telling me I have a update, mentioned, that will not install. I just want this update reminder from coming up each time. There has to be a way to stop this... Very annoying not being able to find and delete this...
If you wish not to install the Security update for Microsoft.net framework, version 1.1 service pack 1 (KB886903) then you can visit the site again and choose the option to "Hide this Update" and that should keep the icon from showing up. The other is to install of course.
I have chose to hide the update and it comes out of hiding each time. It will not install, that was my main reason for posting...Quote:
