Another poll for the members

We need you to vote again folks (thanks for your help) concerning attachments in posts. Would you prefer they open in the current browser window, or open a new one?

I open them in a new one, so making it the default would be nice.

Same here, I like them to open in a new one. I have a habit of closing the window when I'm done with looking at the attachment, and this way I end up losing VDr altogether :eek:

I've seen a sight where attachemtns that are pictures show as a thumbnail in the post rather than just a link is that a doable option or is it too much overhead or not worth doing ?

It's not a feature of vbulletin, sorry.


Edit: I stand corrected. In this last release, it IS a feature. I'll check into it.

Of course, by "new window", we all mean "new TAB" don't we ;)

Don't really care, I look at it and thjen close it anyway regardless of if it's in a tab or window.

Of course I don't want to get a FF warning telling me that VDr is trying to open a pop up which is what it does for Private Messages ????

Actually that example by Nix points out another reason to have them open in new windows. Now that we can post more than one attachment they'll each open in a new TAB so they'll all be open and won't dissapear when looking at more than one.

It's been changed. New windows now.

What are thumbnails shown for ? eg .jpg .bmp

I found out what the problem is. We would have to update PHP on the server for this feature to function.

Do I need to enable it somewhere so I can see them.

I wouldn't be able to upgrade it anyway. The servers themselves aren't under my jurisdiction, and they're also not in NY.

A new window....I get confused easily. :o

Looks like I'm in the minority. I hate stuff which insists on opening a new window -- if I want a normal link to open in a new window I can middle-click on the link, but if a link is set to always open in a new window then there's no way to get it opening in the same one.

I voted for new window, but I use Firefox.

I actually like them to open in a new tab, not a window, but tab wasn't one of the options. I usually right click and select open in new tab. It's a habit I got into and now just do it automatically everytime.

New Tab for me. Have a habit of closing the attachment and then closed the whole thread :p

I voted for a new window because then I can close it, without any impact on the VDR thread that I am reading.

But I have another question on attachments. Have the types of attachments, which VDR accepts, been increased. In the past, it would not accept a PDF file, as well as, other common file types.

I prefer the new window. Using Firefox, when properly configured, the window opens in the background without bothering my browsing.
