I have been wondering for a while what the age of most of the people here at Virtual Dr is..., but since there has not been an off-topic forum till recent, I have not been able to find out..
hearing talkings of children, grandchildren, and of computers that went obsolete before I knew what a computer was makes me feel really young..., (and makes everone else seem really old...)

Hi Byan, so you're 16 years old. Heck, most of my grand children are older than you are. :) (boy does that statement make me feel old) Actually, I'm a very young 67. My advice to you Byan is; enjoy your youth and follow your dreams. (but stay out of trouble) HEHE
I suggest a poll is made to record the range of ages. It's also anonymous which suits the ladies.

My mom always tried to keep her real age a secret. She was pretty succesfull too. Few people knew how old she really was.
She even asked us, my brother and I, to not put her date of birth on her gravestone.

Cor, I'm gettin old... wish I was 16 again ;) I would say 15 but then i couldnt buy my ciggy's :D (yes yes I know, bad for health and all that...)
The results are pretty staggered at the mo, it'll be good to see how it does work out.

35 for the next few weeks.
Will be 50 in November 2004.
The past two years have been strife with
medical problems ranging from open heart surgery to almost losing my
right foot because of diabetes complications.
The other cool thing about turning 50 is I'll be able to join AARP....hahaha.
Soon to be 47... gack, that left a bad taste in my mouth...
...by doing a poll you can *see* the results. Some folk can draw conclusions by looking at figures. So far it is showing a very healthy spread of ages, which goes to show what a wonderful Family community we have here :p :p :p
Although, it's a shame that only 10% of you viewers are voting in the poll. What are you afraid it will do to you....

I feel lucky to have made it this far.

Age isn't a physical measure, it's a state of mind. At least that's what I've kept telling myself during my 13 year battle to stave off adulthood... I guess denial really ain't just a river in Egypt !

it's kinda wierd how fast I am learning all this technoligy (mostly computer sceince) so fast...
I have never personally met anyone that knows more about computers then I do..., of course I know those people are there (some of you guys are proof)
I guess this is an example of how great the internet really is...
The only computer book I own is DOS 6 for dummies, and I have never actually read it. (It came my first computer, my 486DX)
everything I know is either from trial and error or from the internet
now, if I could only get broadband then I could really start having fun....
I wish my parents were more like you guys...
my mother is ok..., she can at least surf the internet
my father is horrible though..., you refuses to do it himself, so whenever he needs something done, he comes to me and makes me do it...., he thinks that it would be a waiste of time for him to learn to do it himself...
my grandfather on my mothers side just got into the stuff..., he bought a nice ibook..
my grandfather on my fathers side is a farmer..., and he seems that all computers are evil or something...
anyways, I have to earn my own money for every computer I use because of this...; which means that I only get a new one about ever 4-6 years...
Don't sweat it, when I was young my father thought computers were just a toy or a tool for work, and that I'd never "make a decent living" working with them. I won't even tell you what his first opinions of the internet were... Just keep truckin'...Quote:

If you really want to get a kick, start playing with Linux on your older systems, the internet is a great resource for learning it. If nothing else, learning Linux gives you better insight into how things work than Windows does, at least IMHO. At best, by the time you hit the workforce, companies may be scrambling for fresh talent with fluent Linux experience.Quote:

As for broadband, well, when I was your age, I know I wouldn't have been using it for learning. At least, not for learning the things we discuss on this board... ;) Stick to dial-up for now, it's in your best interests...!

I was 2 score and a decade when I got my first computer 5 years ago. Then started teaching myself from all your posts. You is good teachers. LOL

Get him to come on-line at some forums with topics which interests him posting to folk with similar interests Im sure he will soon get hooked.Mind you might have trouble getting use of your PC then :D
