homepage changes
w/xp ie6 Well I have been the route with this so here goes.System restore is disabled>have spyguard>spysweeper>spybot>spyblaster>ad aware 6>trend micro int.security on board. Microsoft latest updates installed. All systems show a clean slate. However the adwatch part of ad aware repeatedly blocks an attempt to change my home page from google. The culprit is called Beepcake c/programs transg modeblah. I google searched, found nothing.A check in c/prog. finds nothing, yes all hidden files etc. are shown in my settings. It appears in my registry, hkey local mach.>microsoft>windows>current version>run. You can delete it but it comes back later?I reboot after any delete, still comes back.If anyone knows what this is,where it is hiding, certainly cannot locate in c/prog.,and how to get rid of this your welcome to advise, hell you would be a saint . Fire wall is in place also.

Download HijackThis from here & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, (not a temporary folder & not on the desktop). Start HJT & press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file, copy the entire contents of the text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is harmless & even necessary to the running of your system.

Yuck. You have the latest version of the CSW hijack. THE hardest to remove hijacker yet. Do you want to reformat, use another browser, or try for a fix?
-
Crunchie, what's the tell for the latest and nastiest? The obfuscated entries? And is that load.exe a virus?
Wow Crunchie, never seen you flinch from a HJT! log before. ;)
-
Not flinching, I am just no expert on this particular hijack. If you saw the fixes that have been floating around I think you would understand. Also, the user needs a fair bit of knowledge in the registry. Although the latest fix is easier
That entry is trojandropper.Win32.Small.cw.
These can go anyway:

I see other posts in here ,hope this was my topic post, and that I am not jumping into someone elses?
-
No, it's certainly your thread. I answered the other log thinking that it was yours. I never even looked at the username. Generally I will ask them to start their own thread.
Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {58A83E4F-477A-4A3F-BF9B-B65BC2BD5598} - (no file)

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete
C:\PROGRA~1\TRANSG~1< folder
Reboot normally.

Thank you,I am not good with p.c.s so how do I do the folder thing Thanks
-
Probably the easiest way is to open Windows Explorer then in the left pane go to My Computer then your C drive & expand it by clicking on the + to the left of it. Then you should see Program Files along with other folders. Expand Program Files the same way & scroll down to the TRANSG folder. I have no way of knowing the full name of this folder. Right click on the folder & select delete. When asked if you really want to delete the folder, click yes. Done.

Well, did the steps, but as stated in my first post, have never been able to locate transg or anything remotely close to any phrases in the file name,so as you can see beep cake is still there. Is there anyway to show you the contents of c/program files?or do you have further instructions. Thank you
-
A follow up thank you-- my adaware adwatch reports in new data, that this beep--- has attempted to alter the auto start section, and was blocked? Hope this adds to a solution.
-
Try doing a search of your system using the search facility & type in TRANSG to the search field. When it comes up, right click on it & select delete.
-
Was one of my first actions. Nothing
-
-
Not sure what the jpg was for,but if you are suggesting I look in the registry which is what the jpg seems to depict,I already did that, and that is where it says it is in c/prog files.Yes I have deleted it in the reg.,but never have found it in c/prog. files. And when I delete in the registry it comes back?
-
Sorry for the lack of explanation in my last post, it was 1 AM & within seconds of losing my dial-up connection.
The Jpeg shows Windows Explorer open, not the registry editor. Try using XP in classic mode whilst you do this, that way it will look more like my jpeg shot.
Or go to start in XP then double click on Program files. (I am really not that familiar with XP) Once open it may have the option there to show folders, all folders in program files will then be seen. The folder you are after will be in there, you can see that by looking at the path to it in hijackthis log. I am pretty certain that you do not have to show hidden files & folders, but if you do, do this.
how to here.
The folder will not delete if the executable is running.

Well no matter how I do it nothing appears in c/prog.?I do not know what the connection is,but it seemed that whenever I activated the adwatch feature of adware 6,it would report this beep cake transg ,and sure enough if I did a new hut scan it was back in my registry. I disabled the adwatch, and have not seen any reappearance in the last 2.5 hrs, what do you think? Any how please look at this log my last I hope just to make sure everything else is still ok, not sure about R3.
-
That's strange, it's not showing in the log now  . Have you had a look in add/remove programs for that entry? Might be worth a shot.
How many backups from HJT do you have on the desktop? HJT should be in it's own folder.
Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\System\panels\blank.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Yes ,but it seems my attempt at creating a seperate folder is not correct,as I have asked for everything else would you mind instructing me on how to accomplish this, before I proceed wiyh any further scans. Thanks
-
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.
Or, right click on the desktop & select New\Folder. The folder will then appear on the desktop. You can then either drag the hijackthis.exe into the folder & run it from there, or unzip the original file you downloaded into that folder.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and have the same problem. Here's a scan report from Hijack This. I would greatly appreciate any help because this is frustrating and I cannot remove the problem. Thanks much.
