Hi all,
I was wondering if this case http://amamax.com/pomaswblatxm2.html will fit this motherboard http://soyo.com/products/proddesc.php?id=17
As long as both are rated ATX then the motherboard will indeed fit into that ATX case.
Wow, that was a quick reply. Yes both of them are rated atx. Thanks.
You're welcome.
Just an note the case specs do not mention a power supply.
I know, You can add one but they are cheapo psu's I have one I can use.
S`OK I just didnt want you gettin disapointed when it arrived https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Do I have to reformat the hardrive are can I just put it in the new computer. I think it might cause problems because of different motherboards etc. But don't want to format if I don't have to. Also any tips for buliding a new pc. This will be the first one I build. It isn't going to be top of the line pc but it will sure be better than my 500 mhz celeron paper weight. The joy of getting away from brand name computers will be so good.:D Plus the satifaction of putting it together myself and make it run (hopefully it will run). I doubt I will run into any problems. I researched all the parts to make sure they will not cause conflicts with each other.
the hdd is univseral to any system. You just have to make sure you load the Inf udate installer on your motherboard so it can recognize the chipset to allow the hdd to run.
You can do it the old skool way of make the drive a 20 gig drive and later load Partition Magic 8 or so after you get the mobo to recognize the drive as a 200gig and make it what you want from it.
if the OS is Win ME or earlier you can just delete the ENUM key from the registry [which holds the hardware list] before last shutdown on the old system then when you boot up in your new system it will need all the motherboard and peripheral drivers installing as required.
If its XP or 2K then The Elder Geek has the answer.
As for tips.......
Take your time
Double check all cable and jumpers are set correctly and the right way round
Do not touch the board or components if you have it powered up as a spark[static] can kill the hardware in an instant.
Whan you delve in the case to fit the parts touch the metal case first to remove static from your body.
Did I say take your time ;)
Well I decided to go ahead and format mainly because I haven't done so in about 2 years. I figure with a new pc why not give it a clean hardrive. Also I am going to do a full scan disk just to make sure I have no errors. Already knew all fo those tips. As for take my time. Yeah I will(fingers crossed):D That will be my main problem. Becuase once I get all the parts I am going to want to put that pc together fast. But I will try to take my time. Don't want to put it together just to take it apart to do something I missed because of it. I will love having an extra cd rom drive. It sucks making back ups of cds only to have to copy it first to the hardrive than burn it. I'll post back to let you all know how it turns out.
Well my case will be here tommrow. My heat sink and cpu fan has a lot of dust on it. What is the best way going about cleaning them?
I'm reluctant to use water because then I would have to make triple sure that the heatsink was completely dry before reinstalling it and I just don't feel like waiting that long. That's why I always use an air compressor with the fitting I use to inflate rafts and such. It works great and removes every speck of dust. I always remove the heatsink from cpu and fan from heatsink before air blasting btw. I know you're not stupid but I'm just thorough in the way I explain things.
Best way I've found of cleaning a heat sink and the fans is, alcohol and a cotton swab. To me this is the easiest and safest method of cleaning all fans and heatsinks.
If you decide to use a air compressor make sure you hold the fan blades so they don't rotate, otherwise you could very well burn up the bearings in your fan, since blowing air can rotate the fans backward.
I agree 100% photolady. Only use air compressor on heatsink itself not fan.
Well I got the pc built and everything is running fine except the floppy drive. I installed a plain old cd rom driver on the secondary ide along with a cd-rw drive. The cd-rw is set to master and the cd rom drive is set to slave via the jumpers on the back of them. Well the floppy drive will not read any floppies at all while the cd rom drive is connected. Once I unconnect the cd-rom drive and reboot it can read them. When I try to read a floppy in Windows it acts like there is no floppy in there at all and tells me to put one in. What could cause this?
Never mind, apparently I had the floppy drive installed a lil to close up to the ejactor button on the case. It decommpressed the button enought to trick it in to thinking it had no disk but yet a disk was really in it. Its all good now.:D
