spybot can be used on 2k machines.
What exactly has gone wrong?
Cannot install? Cannot scan?
What he says is that it opened and started scanning, then just stopped and shut down and wouldn't reopen. He tried reinstall it and the same thing happened.
I directed him to the program's site and he did the recommended steps of editing the INI file and checking CoolWWW, but those weren't the problem.
We're really stumped here.
f117nighthawk, Try Adaware; I have been using it for years: it's a lot easier then Spybot and check for updates every day.
I hope this will help?

He has both. It's recommended to use both so one can catch what the other misses.
I had him use RegCleaner to purge Spybot from his registry after uninstalling and now he's running SwatIt, then he'll reinstall Spybot, if he can.
f117nighthawk, I hear some people say have both so one catches what the other misses; that's BS! I ran Spybot at one time and it was trouble. It's like having two firewalls or two Anti-Viruses etc. you will have problems with them. Use one or the other Spybot WILL NOT catch anything that Adaware misses.
I hope this will help?

Deltree, thats just not true. Nighthawk is correct. Many times one will catch what the other misses.Quote:

Just don't run them at the same time, lol.
I frequently run them at the same time with no problems.
I have to disagree, I have been using both since Adaware 6 came out. No problems whatsover, i have also been recommending this way to friends and others, and they have not reported any problems either.Quote:

P3-450, run both if you wish. I am just telling you what happen to me.
I like Adaware over Spybot that's just the way I fell about them.Spybot is known to call things spyware when they are not.

If you want to use only Ad-aware, then you go for it. I was just sharing my experiences.
:)
Um, could we get back to my buddy's problem?
Um, spyware/adware? I thought that was blatantly obvious.Quote:

usil, Adaware will not miss anything that Spybot will pick up.

On my computer it does. And another reason to run Spybot would be the immunize functions.Quote:

f117nighthawk, you ask to get back to yor buddy's problem, but you haven't reported yet what happened after the last attempt to install it.
Well it turns out he's using Win2K PRO, which is different than 2K. He says that because 2K Pro is entirely NT based, it won't work with Spybot.
Niels, On my computer it does. Does what?

Does find things that Ad-Aware didn't find. Just yesterday I installed both on a computer, ran Ad-Aware first and then Spybot, Spybot found five problems (just tracking cookies and something Alexa-related though).Quote:

f117nighthawk, Spybot does work on Windows 2k pro and NT. The website says you need administrator rights for some functions.
I think he has admin rights. It's his computer. I'll doublecheck with him next time we chat.
niels/usil, I am very HAPPY for you??
