finally i have an update, dated 2-2-04
Thanks frebo,,Just have to say, it's about time!!! :p
frebo,
I think you have become our official "Updates Advisor"
:D
Elaine
can i have an update too? :(
Narwhale,
Got to your Spybot Search & Destroy and go to the update tab. fresbo is being stingy and is not giving any out :D
Has this update broken Spybot for anyone? Two systems I've updated now continually report no threat whereas before tracking cookies were always found and removed.
I know some were present on one system as I accidentally started a scan when I went to update, several things were found before I stopped the scan and went straight to update. I then shut Spybot down & ran it again to ensure use of the updated signature file, it reported no threat found. My own system also scans clean even though I know some sites I've been to leave tracking cookies.
Hi, guess I will just have to be patient I haven't been able to get updated regardless of mirror site selected keep getting "bad Checksum". Platypus I can't comment on your concerns as a result, will be anxious to see if others experience the same problem. What say our "official update advisor" Frebo.
Well I haven't been able to get Spybot or Ad-Aware working at work since late December 2003.
Also this thread shows that we are not alone

Mine certainly seems to be broken. Update says no newer update available, as you'd expect. Scan comes up clear, but AdAware just found 8 tracking cookies.
I`ve had a lot of trouble with it in the past, sometimes taking lots of tries before it downloaded. This time I got it first attempt.

Well it looks like the update is certainly broken for me, at least from the Australian mirror. I followed a logical suggestion from another site to uninstall Spybot, remove the orphan folders which still contain old update data that can confuse matters, then re-install.
The re-installed but not updated Spybot found tracking cookies as normal. After updating to 02-02-04 it stops finding stuff that AdAware then finds.
I might try the procedure again from another mirror site.
I also had a problem with downloading. The USA mirror worked first time though!
My SpyBot download did not work the first try. It did work the second try.
As I said I've been having this problem since last year
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...ghlight=spybot
My last post has a link to their support site where it appears to be a problem for others too http://forums.net-integration.net/in...p?showforum=28
Needless to say I have tried the recommended solution at this page http://www.zerosrealm.com/updating.php and it didn't help.
I actually ended up uninstalling Spybot but may re-install and use the manual d/l lsited at the bottom of that page.
Platypus, you are correct. The Feb. 2 detections update renders the program "blind." It is totally useless, unable to detect any threats, even when there are many. Spybot has been notified.
Hi, got my update from the US site this morning. Then I ran the program took 12 mins to scan a 6 GB drive. Very unusual for it to take this long and it found nothing. Now I have Spyware Blaster and to have no nasties is quite normal.Might dip my toe in the water at "A' vista" and see what nasties result.
Hi, maybe one of the Mod's could merge this thread with this one:-

We all seem to be discussing the same thing and there does appear to be a problem with Spybot.
I've had problems 2 or 3 times with updates, but if it is really new,i believe the server(s) are just very busy. I usually wait for off peak hours and maybe change locations and all has been well. It may also be a problem if your behind a 'server' firewall or your firewall hasn't been configured to allow it. I use ZA free and when i got the first popup when trying to update, I just gave it internet access and no probs since. Might try disabling your AV program just for the dn/load also...
Wow... I have not had one bit of trouble and updates have worked fine. I have also found evil buddies lurking and spybot kills them. So not sure why others have issues.
After having done an update at work and at home, Spybot all of a sudden finds the opaserv worm. However, after doing extensive tests, I believe that it is not true. I posted here.
Brewster, the Feb. 2 update is not finding any "evil buddies." It is defective, and Spybot knows about it. And what we are talking about here is not how long it takes to download, or other issues regarding the ease of the program's operation. We are talking specifically about the update dated 2/2/2004. Installing this update renders Spyboat "blind." It sees nothing. It scans and finds no problems, even when there are many.
I tried to get it yesterday and Spybot kept locking up. I will try again today.
Chanter,
I don't seem to have the problems you mentioned, although I do have other problems since updating. It finds non-existent opaserv worm on my system.
I was curious to know if you can send a link to where you read that the update is problematic.

How do you know this?
Take a look here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/inde...&page=download
A brief description is given of the use of the 02/02/04 update.
Have you downloaded and installed the 2/2/04 detections update, run a scan and had the program find anything? How do I know it? Well, after seeing that the update rendered the program useless, I contacted Spybot and they acknowledged that there is a problem and that they will issue an update to correct it.
I had already downloaded the update. I have just run a scan and it found those that I allow but nothing new. Scan took 400 seconds.
If it's a bad download why on earth have they left it on the server?
Chanter:
Did they say when they were going to supply the fix?
They didn't say. I suggested they remove this update and repost the previous one, but they have not responded to that suggestion. TBC....
oh gee... i was not aware that the update was not working. I did an update today on a computer and found Gator, Precision Time, Hot Tool Bar and many more. I went to updates, then downloaded the updates and it appeared to be working. Maybe I did not get the 2-2 one. I will try mine tonite at home and see what happens. Thanks Chanter for the clarification. I thought it ment the whole program not working period.
My Spybot went bad about 2 months ago. It runs and then shuts down. Can someone keep us updated as to when the program is repaired?
There is no problem with the program, Foxy. It runs fine, and always has, except for an occasional balky download. This problem relates only to a particular update.
Got this from a member of another board:

Go here:

and read the last entry on page 1 from Spybot Support Team.
I sent an email to Spybot with regard to the last update. I received this reply today:
Hello
right now we got a little bug in the latest update. But Patrick is going to fix it. The cookies are not detected right now. So do not worry, the bad things will be detected as usually.
By the way Spybot-S&D 1.3 is coming soon. It supports much more features, even for cookies. So please be patient, a fix will be released as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Your Team Spybot
Thanks TJolly!
Please do keep all of us posted.
