Question: is the present version a Beta version or is it Gold?
On the microsoft site it does not come out clearly. I hate to download Beta versions and rather wait for the final version.
It's a Beta version.
Iguess, I wait until the final is out. I have a feeling that it not completely ready for normal use.
I could not pass this up, even their gold versions quite often are not ready for prime time.
I agree Jubal. But I had trouble with some beta versions before which determines to say: WAIT and see. It can't take that long for the final version to be released. Does anyone know that date for final release?
The one problem I see with it is that there is no uninstaller with it. If you want to go back to version 8 in XP, you have to use System Restore to roll it back.
It's worked great for me. I like it. Nice little toolbar available for XP users also.
DesertFox, yeah I tend to stay away from the Beta's also. I am usually one behind a lot of others on the Nvidia drivers because I always wait for the Gold versions.
I'd advise everyone to avoid this beta version. I've had it on my system for one day, and it already refuses to open. I wasn't able to revert to version 8 using System Restore, so I had to reinstall XP over the top of itself to fix it. I don't see any reason for Microsoft to not include an uninstaller for a beta product. They're even offering it at Windows Update now, so it should be very interesting to see how many complaints they get if others have the same problem I did.
hi,
just thought id add my 'nice' experience to this.
installed media player 9 to view the halo2 trailer. ended up getting the quick time version as it wouldnt play.
now that its installed ok, it will only run with a user that has admin priveleges....now i dont really want everyone to have admin right so im stuck...
and oops, no roll back for me..back up is too old..:D
never mind, if any one can help with this, im open to options
Brian
To test the installation and roll back I set a restore point and named it "Before Media9" without the quotes, then installed it from the Windows Update site, it ran smooth with no problems. I then restored my system to "Before Media9", it also ran smooth with no problems. I no longer have Media9 and am back to my Before Media9 Media Player. It also shows up again on the Windows Update site. Actually I think Media9 looks better with their slightly new colors etc.
I think it looks better too. I still have no idea why it stopped working for me, but I'm seeing people complaining about it at other sites too. Just one of those 'beta' things I guess.
MmH! Does it cinfirm to be careful downloading beta versions. I don't want to get into a mess and rather wait for gold. I am sure there will be complaints to MS enough for them too look again into it. I do not want to waiste my time on restoring etc. when some thing goes wrong because it is a beta version.
We are the Microsoft Ginuea Pigs :D
Couldn't resist it too since its now on the windows update page...
Been messing with it for a while now, seems OK, no probs yet!
But as its a Beta Version, i wouldn't recommend installing it unless u'r fully backed up... (i don't use system restore, not my cuppa tea!)
Regards :)
I researched a bit about Media 9. Final release is expected towards the end of the year. So, still a long ways to go. The beta version is the first public one and is intended mainly or purely for testing purposes. It can be expected that further beta versions will be released.
I will have the patience to wait until the final release is available.
Im using the beta version with no probs....very cool:D
