Operation Delta 27
Operation Delta 27 now begins. To catch you up on the recent happenings; The Queen of Hearts is now inside a graphics program trying to computer challenge her new pc. Her new mod is as yet unannounced. Viper has been in and out on her pc building. Bistro continues to find new ways to confound the cooling experts. And Train is integrating humor into his PC. Me, still refunding to begin building. Of course as in all things there are certain pluses and mine is watching and learning while waiting. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

QoH, Can you help goldust on 98 forum. He's having trouble with word 97 and images. Looks like I can't. Good to hear from you. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Checked out goldust's post--gave just a guess that instead of copying/pasting, may need to use the Insert Picture feature in Word. i believe using that feature has "magic" and puts it in the right "mode". Then again, I may be totally off on that https://discussions.virtualdr.com/.
Haven't posted all that much lately---recooping from (rather, still suffering) effects of food poisoning---picked it up at a downtown cafe (no...not a "bistro").
Not fun at 'tall, folks.
-
Bistro
That is beyond horrible. Food poisoning is double badnews.
They [graphics] have to be inserted in order to be embeded to be printed or all you have is a shortcut that is never printed. From the way it was explained to me. That is how it works. I tryed both ways and copy/paste failed every time.

I believe that's correct. "Imbed" is the key word there. (OLE). https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ OK, Qoh, what are you up to? Converting/overclocking the system to a Cray mainframe? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
Imbed or Embed means the same to me.
How about 3 generations above the current cray. [Now both of us are wishing!]
How about a quick description of how you marked and started the holes in the side panel, bistro. Might be home this weekend, and have same idle time to fill https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Yes a bistro special at that.

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ No, can't sue---no real proof, but I narrowed it down to that place. I should have suspected something when the salad blinked at me....
OK, side panel blowholes. Remember the rule: Measure twice, cut once. No...I'll change that...measure several times, then cut once.
With the side panel off, take some masking tape and line the top, bottom and rear edge of the case, so you don't have to make pencil marks directly on the metal. Assuming you're gonna make two vertical blowholes, measure the distance from the top and rear to approximately center over the CPU. Do the same for the vid card. Remember, the side panel has that large indentation ("handle"), so you may not be able to cut exactly over where the CPU/vid card reside, but close enough. Make notes of the measurements. Then take some wide masking tape and completely cover the area on the side panel where the blowholes will be cut (try to do edge to edge or a very slight overlap; don't want it too thick)--mark on the taped area the center mass for the two measurements. (The masking tape will help prevent scratches when cutting/drilling). Take the chrome grills to be installed (assuming they're 80mm's) and place (center) them down on each center mass marking. May have to make slight adjustments here--if you have to move them slightly more apart, it's not going to matter much; just line them up as straight as possible vertically). Once straight, tape them down by their mounts ("legs")WITHOUT covering up the holes where the mounting screws go. Check again to make sure they are as straight as possible. Then using the inside of the outer ring, trace a circle using a good "Sharpie" pen. Then carefully mark with a spot the exact center where each mounting screw will go. Remove the grill carefully and fill in any blank spots on the traced circle. Repeat for the other blowhole. Inspect your work. Line those grills back up on your tracings and double-check. You are now ready for cutting.
Go slow--will be difficult to replace that side panel if you screw up. Make sure you file the edges down fairly well after cutting--making sure there are no little metal tags left to fall down into your case.
I found the best screws/bolts to fit 80's (with grill and filter) are 6/32 x 1 1/4" machine screws--round head. Available at most hardware stores. be sure to get the matching nuts for them--can find them in packets of 6. I also prefer the aluminum filters rather than the foam type--just my preference really. If you use the aluminum type, be aware of the orientation. Spin the fan blades by hand before powering up--if you hear them scraping, reverse the filter. If you power up and they're not oriented right, you could quickly burn out the fans. As far as fans go, Antec, Sunon and Panaflo are all good. Personal pref are the Panaflo's--seem to move more air a lot quieter than the others.
Now, if any of ya'll are going for a blowhole on top, it's basically the same, BUT make dang sure you account for the space it takes to slide off the case top vs. the amount of space to the power supply--bit of a tight fit---measure very carefully. My top blowhole centermass is 8" from the rear of the top panel. Yours may be slightly different, depending on the power supply.
Thar ye be. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Oh, forgot the mounting holes....I used a self-tapping machine screw-slightly larger than 6/32; just drilled it in, then reversed it out. When you try to mount the grill/filter/fan, if you find one of the mounting holes to be slightly off , just drill it open a little more. Of course, after all the cutting/drilling, remove all masking tape (looks ugly on there anyway https://discussions.virtualdr.com/)

My gosh Bistro, what extrodinarily bad luck. That is not my idea of fun in any way shape or manner. Just got in from work and got curious about what was happening. I believe where you're at is baisically bad for your health. Go west young man - go west. Thanks for trying on Goldust.
Train, I had an HO model railroad when I was a kid you would not belive. That's where I started learning about electricity. The Shay was in a Model Railroader years ago. Lots of stories there.

Got rid of both of the so-called "tweak" programs for GeForce cards and went back to the standard tweaks--pulled 7033 3DMark2K score (big increase). 3DMark 2001 is out, but too big of a download--don't want to wait 2 hours https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. If anyone sees it come out on any computer mag CD, give me a whistle....Thanks!

3DMark 2001 needs Direct x 8 or more to run.
I got it by accident https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
It is only 30.0MB https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
You are right the basics gave me my big jump and I just followed the instructions as listed, helped rendering times also. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Worked of my first mac last night, talk about a newbie feeling. Also, someone has a surprise coming if I work one her 486 with 95B again. I will add a couple of programs, like msconfig, msinfo32, winme defrag, you know nothing major,. Now to get her to turn her back for two minutes.
Did not get any modes done this weekend, but there is always tomorrow.

Real curious on that 3DMark 2001---understand the scoring is different. Just when I got used to breaking 7000, they go and change things https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Such is life....
Note to DrMDJ (if you happen to be reading): Had to return that Promise ATA 100 controller card (wanted to add my ZIP drive to it). As you recall, it wouldn't boot for nothing---kept getting a DOS "Configms" error. Went and replaced it with a Siig ATA 100 on a chance. Booted right up, no conflicts. I have my ZIP drive back---go figure...
EDIT: Just downloaded 2001 off a T3 line--took about 40 minutes. Not bad compared to over 2.5 hours via modem. Will try it out tonight.
