Operation Delta 21
Operation Delta 21 now begins. As you avid readers know https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ The Queen of Hearts has finished building her computer and I am just at the point where I can now start ordering components. QoH and I were going to start together but something unforseen got into my "piggy bank". Once built QoH found tweaking and peaking to be addictive and then it happened - she discovered gaming. And that's where she is at the moment. She took the weekend off (I understand from reliable sources she was dragged from her computer uttering extremely loud sounds.) https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ so we can talk about her - maybe. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
The information contained in the Operation Delta Threads is extensive and needs to be indexed to save the reader time, although when you do a search on a topic in VirDr, should Operation Delta have any information on it, it will show up.
Alot of the members have had inputs and noone should be shy about posting. If you have questions, please ask. If you have comments please post those also.
Click here for Operation Delta 20.

Hi guys. Went to a computer fair today in gaithersburg, Maryland. No too bad. Picked up a system bracket fan and a stick of 128MB for 40 bucks. Lots of good stuff; some cheapy stuff. I noticed some fairly decent monitors running around 250 (the $100 ones were....well...they're $100...you figure it out). Lots of good parts, mobos etc. You can save yourself some decent money at those fairs if you know what you're looking for. Watch for "refurbished" vendors---saw a great deal on an Intel web cam; almost got it until I spotted the "Refurbished" sticker on the side. New mobos were going for around 15 to 30 less than ones I've seen on the net (including shipping). Even if a fair is an hour away, it would still be worth it. Recommend you check around. Usually you have to pay an all day admission of 5 or 7 bucks---so don't go "just to look". Check the TV and papers.
Train: Went through the WR Med Museum years ago; sure it's changed a bit. I remember the warning I got not to eat lunch just before going in there... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

The sun is up, and they are all out playing.
Must be, or that was the noise I heard in the middle of the night. The sound of a addict being drug away. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Glad you got to see the "unknown system" happen to me, Mosaic. So it went ok?
I'm still unloading my truck.
When I first fired up, the screen shook like it had tremors. But I think it may have been that new refresh rate that I changed just before I left outta here Friday. I thought I had rebooted a couple of times after changing, but switching it back to optimal seemed to calm it down immediately. Unless that was a coincidence ?
...or maybe he missed me as much as I missed him ...?

heard an "alert" today--seems that there is a whole family of viruses going around. One in particular that's come out of Holland comes through email--says something like "You gotta see this!" (helloooo...can we be more obvious???...) It has an attachment: (Blahblah).jpg--it's actually a *.jpg.vbs file. Attacks as soon as it's open. If you have Windows Scripting Host uninstalled, the virus can't be opened. Recommend you uninstall WSH under Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Windows Setup>Accessories. If it's checked, uncheck it.

Over at the Win 98 forum, janusz posted a good tweak for the modem. Appears to speed up Internet access a bit. Cut & paste here:
Open up the flood gates! Put some ZIP in your browser! Try this fantastic tweak - makes a BIG, BIG, BIG difference in downloading speed. See this MS article: http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q183/1/10.ASP
Here's how to do it:
The steps below are for Win9x. [If you have Win2000, the parameters already exists; just go to the specified registry location and EDIT the values.]
You have to go into the registry. Always backup the registry before making any changes!!! However, it is very simple.
a. Open Regedit (Start-->Run--> and type 'regedit' [without quotes] )
b. Navigate to the following folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings (you have to double-click on this folder)
c. Select Edit and then 'DWORD value' and name the item:
MaxConnectionsPerServer (just copy/paste this, as is)
d. Select Edit again, and select Modify and set the value to any high number (the default is 2) - I set mine for 6.
e. Next, select Edit and then 'DWORD value' and name the next item:
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server (no typo;just copy/paste this as is)
f. Select Edit again, and select Modify and set the value to any high
number (the default is 4) - I set mine for 8.
g. Exit. Restart.
I checked this out and it does appear to be a little faster. But like he said, back up your Registry first.
