turned it off to play games last night, and formated the pc today...

all is ok, only operating system is on "c", rest is elseware.... after installing the latest version of ZA I kept getting repeated hits..... I was one of the 1st to get the za update, after installing it the hits wouldnt stop......hmmm... I thought (this all started when code red did)... anyways, last night I decided to play games and had to "kill" ZA in order too....... had fun played, no problem..... woke up this morning and no operating system..... HHMMMMMMM

any hint of what hit you? mach
no idea mach, I was fed up with the hits by za..... Ive since reverted back to earlier version of za and dont see the hits, is this good or bad.... I dont know Im at 2.6.69
and no probs yet, been online about 3 hours and not 1 hit, with new version I was hit at least 40-50 times in 1-2 hours.... Im dial up, no broad band here yet.

I got 2.6.88 version getting a bunch of hits, like 20+ an hour. Thought I had an old 2.1.44 still but only a 2.1.25 I found. I got to show this thread to the disbelieving Bingoaholic who wants to drop ZA to play a Euchre site. I tell her they must be up to something there because the site used to play okay when I had 2.1.44 installed and running. I think it was running when I upped to 2.6.88 but when the site stopped working right, they recommended dropping ZA to play. Maybe they want to run some spyware while you play to get their $$ worth off running the games. Maybe when she sees your post here, she will back off. I told her if she crashes it out by shutting ZA off, she will be doing the fixing herself.
She thinks I am full of it and also blames ZA running for why her Bingo wins are not being "acknowledged" at another site. They told her corrupt cookies may be why. (I allow her to have cookies open at the Bingo sites because some sites won't update your stats or even run if they are off)
Be nice to know what you got hit with.

It does have to be asked - is ZoneAlarm really any use? If people have to turn it off to do things and don't know what's hitting when it signals something is wrong - is anything really wrong? Change version and no hits - are you missing something important?
HI, just thought i'd mention that i use BlackICE Defender FireWall.....i find it cool, i never need to turn it off when playing games or anything, its really user friendly, works great for me....doesn't keep asking for permission it decides for its-self....

Now that you've made everyone paranoid how about explaining why you think your problem evolves around some evil doer who got into your computer from your dail-up connection? I certainly don't believe it and am surprised that so many do.....but its understandable when post like yours, with no substance, are posted blaming some unknown outside source as the cause of your computer going South on you.

You get hacked one time, yes dialup, as you have no idea what the last person to have your ip number did to make someone mad, and you will believe him.
I got hacked twice and have been using ZA ever since. Even have a hardware firewall now and have ZA still stop stuff once in a while.
Had to restore both time also.

I use ZA Pro all the time and haven't upgraded ... and likely won't. It blocks everything now, so why bother. The rush to get the latest is not always the smartest move .... And I keep the alerts popup off so if I am getting hits I don't see 'em. All I care is that I am protected. Not much point in seeing the hits, in my opinion, since I am not going to bother tracing any more anyway .... it just annoys me when I am surfing or something to have them jumping up anyway. Kinda like having a condom tell me it is protecting me when .... well, you see what I mean https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Anyway, I started this to say that I use Playsite.com http://playsite.com/index.gsp
for online games like euchre, etc. and have no trouble at all with ZA.
