Is something like this what I'd need to connect wirelessly from my laptop to my stereo speakers?

This kit supplies all the cables needed.
Stereo is a Sony about 14 years old now and has great speakers. Laptop is fairly new.
Are there other brands to consider?

That looks like it would work, however, bear in mind that current Bluetooth standards are not capable of handling high-quality audio. If you want the best quality, a solution for that would be a wired connection that you can plug the laptop into, or a non-Bluetooth wireless networking connection that can handle the data transfer volume necessary.

The laptop is about 30 feet away from the stereo, so wired won't work, different rooms.
However, I'm not sure what kind of non blue tooth wireless connection might be possible in this situation.

At least one of those hardware items I posted links for can connect to standard stereo inputs. Check the specs. I think one or more should work for you.

They make these cables up to 100 feet long, would that work? Would have to go up to the ceiling and over.
If the bluetooth sound quality is not that good, I just won't even try it.
That should work, assuming that you are connecting it to your stereo receiver / amplifier. You cannot go wrong with that price.
That cable is shielded so it should work well. Depending on the input jacks on the Sony amp/receiver you might need an adapter to go from stereo mini 3.5 female to stereo RCA.

According to the owners manual and google you'll need that adapter to plug the computer into the Sony device.

Ok, I thought it would connect in the front of the unit in the headphone jack.
Actually, I keep a tape deck connected in the back.
Headphone jack is an output. Can't be used for input. Worth noting is that the mic input will also not work properly. It's possible you could use the video game audio input but you should test it with the tape deck to make sure... you'd still need that adapter though.
Tape deck does not work plugged into the front jacks.
If by front jacks you mean video game jacks then you've only got the jacks that the tape deck is plugged into to use.
Yes, that's right. I confused myself with the headphone jack on the laptop
I need the tape deck into the back red phono jack (on the Sony) and same for the white. That sound quality is not real good. Have to use the phone function.
So if I just have the pc jacks for this new wire I don't suppose that sound would be any better?
Wish the blue tooth idea could work out but guess that's not a good option either.

The PC input jacks are what you said you have the tape deck plugged into. That's what I understood anyway. If not then please describe ALL of the things you currently have plugged into the Sony and which inputs they're using.Quote:

If by Phone you mean phono then that should ONLY be used for a turntable.. it is not suitable for ANYTHING else because of it's electronic setup. Using it for a PC or a Tapedeck would cause distortion and bad audio.Quote:
