[RESOLVED] FILE DOWNLOAD SECURITY WARNING when opening a link to the internet.

Hi, I have an annoying problem that I hope you people can help me solve. I’m running Windows 10 and shortly after the last windows update I have been getting this Dialog box popping up every time I open a link on my desktop. The Box is a “FILE DOWNLOAD SECURITY WARNING” It gives me two choices OPEN and CANCEL. When I click open the link on my desktop will open and all is OK and of course. CANCEL will close the box. This extra step in opening a link to the internet is very annoying and I hope that someone has a fix for this problem. I have search the internet and have tried moving my temp file folder with no success. I have also tried different browsers from IE to Chrome to Firefox and still no success.
I also did a restore from a backup a week Pryor to this problem and everything worked great for a few days then windows did an update and now I’m back with the same annoying problem.

You guys have helped me in the past and it's been awhile since I needed your help. I just hope someone has the answer.

Apparently, this is caused by KB3185319 and affects Win7/8/8.1 also. You could uninstall KB3185319, but Win10 will reinstall it eventually.

Wow Thank you very much it worked, but the KB number that you listed I did not have so I just uninstalled the security update from Sept 23 and presto.
Hopefully if Microsoft sees the problem they will fix it soon before installing updates.
I'm thinking about disabling the auto updates for the time being until I know that this has been fixed.

You can't really disable automatic update in Win10. You can try using a 'metered' connection. You can also try hiding specific update.

Do you have a camera hooked up to my computer? Are you watching me?
As I was trying to disable the updates I found that it can't be done.
I'll just wait and if the problem is back at least I will know what to do for a temp fix.

The forced Windows Update issue has been around since Day 1, so it's a very common question. The Anniversary update broke the group policy blocking for Win10 Pro too.

OK Sorry it's been a while since I login here, been out of town. Anyway, I still have the problem and I have tried many fixes with no luck. I have attached a pic of the popup that I get, this one is when I open Amazon. Other websites do the same thing as my banking site, My Credit card site, and many others.

I also noticed that an upgrade to Windows 10 KB5034441 will not install, and I get an error 0x80070643.
I don't know if this is causing my popup problem or that it's another problem altogether. That's all I need is another problem.

OK, that image would seem to indicate that you are accessing the web page not from a Favorites link in your web browser but instead from a saved file on you hard drive. It would help if we knew what type of file you have saved the link as. The full file name and a screen capture of the Properties for the file would be useful. Right-click on the file/link and select Properties, then post a screen capture of the Properties window that appears.

Set your system to show the file extensions for all files before getting your screen capture.

It is possible that Windows has set the "Mark of the Web" flag on that file, and that is why you are getting the popup message, even though you are not actually "downloading" anything other than the usual html data from the web page.

The first part of the information from the link below shows how to remove the "Mark of the Web" from a file:

Note: DO NOT enable macros from untrusted documents if you have Microsoft Office installed.

One last question:
Is there a reason why you are not saving links to your favorite web sites in your web browser(s)' Favorites settings? Those would not generate the bogus "download" security warning message.

If I open a file from my Browser, any Browser the popup does not popup.
When I open a link on my taskbar or on my desktop then I get the popup.
I took an image like you wanted with the Walmart link right next to my Amazon link.

Looks like you need to make New shortcuts for your desktop.... The second picture URL line should look like:

https://www.walmart.com/

So, go to Walmarts/Amazon's website and drag the URL line to your desktop.....

The URL shown in the second image is not the one you are looking for.
