Friend gave me a dell inspirion 1520. When booting it goes right to dell media direct..Cant figure out how to get to windows vista
Boot into safe mode. Once on the desktop, click start/run and type msconfig. Uncheck dell media direct then restart computer.
When booting to safe mode the 2 following options are there
1: continue with system restart
or
2: delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu
either one takes me back to dell media direct
sorry at the beginning of those two options it says system restart has been paused
Check the BIOS to see which drive is set to boot up from as first boot device. To get into the BIOS/Setup on most Dell Laptop's it's the F2 key.
Sorry photolady f2 doesn't get me to bios
When are you pressing the key? Try F1 then. It's either F2 or F1 and you press it as soon as you restart the computer/Laptop.
F2 is the key to get you in the bios for this computer.
To get in the bios, start your computer, as soon as you see the DELL logo, press the F2 key.
F2 brings up boot screen saying Microsoft windows embedded then boots to media direct again
Windows media direct uses it's own partition with a stub of windows, so that it can boot faster. It is very possible that the regular windows partition is not even there anymore. If you could find the Dell restore disks, you could restore windows.
Disks are 6 bucks on ebay no problem there Question is cause I cant get into the bios to change boot sequal will it still boot off the disk
Pressing <F2> during POST (power on self test) should get you into the BIOS|CMOS System Setup.
If it doesn't, power the machine all the way down. Wait 10 seconds or so. Power it back up and immediately start tapping the <F2> function key.
tried that done that. just tried again still goes to the media direct
For a test, insert a bootable dvd, the computer will probably detect that there is a bootable media in the drive.
Well I am back . Was able to get to the bios by unplugging cmos battery. No bootable drives so I rebuilt the mbr and made it to desktop.I can reboot several time then I lose the mbr again and have to remove cmos battery again and repeat the same thing. Also when I do get to desktop getting regsvr32 error. c:\Users\Kathy\Appdata\Local\Y...\qwhpymfbni.dll failed to load. Before that error I did run malwarebytes that found a few problems
