I am so unhappy...
I am so unhappy with how badly I have fallen behind in the tech world. Six or seven years ago I was roaming around this forum answering tech questions from "newbs".
Now.....all I do is ask the questions.... :o
Honestly....I don't know how anyone keeps up with it all unless it is their job to do so.

maxximilian--I hate to tell you, but most of the little I know about PC software comes from surfing VDr.
And if you did not ask questions, there would be no purpose to VDr.
So cheer up and come to VDr often. :)

Jim, you have been here as long as me....2001. :D
Actually, I was here before that....like 1999, but lost those first couple years when they upgraded back then and profles got pooched. Back in the days when Houser maratouk ran the show. Back then....windows98....scanreg /fix and "install Irfanview" was all you needed to tell anyone....LOL :D

Pop in a little more often max, heck it took me about 6 months to get up enough nerve to join.
VDR is where I learned the tad that know. So, sticking around is how I get the refresher I need to remember it..

As Train and Welshjim say,I hung around here a lot after I found it. One of the best places to get help on the net for many years. Think my best feeling was when I was actually able to help someone for the first time. After that I was hooked.
Keep checkin' in maxx,if not,you "will" be missed...:)

Ten years ago I was interested in why things worked....or how to make things work better. Now all I care about is getting something to work and the hell with everything else. Getting old I guess. :D

I have at least a half a dozen pc's that for the most part work. Been meaning to do sumptin with em for a few years... But get caught up in the WHY catagory. Not much market for 1.3gig processor type machines and I don't have any use for them...so WHY bother....
-
Yeah....I have three machines in the closet....fully operational...including a 400Mhz Celeron Emachine, and a home-built running a 900mhz Duron....LOL
I have settled in with a dual-boot XP/Linux box (home-built 2.4 gig P4), A new quad-core Win7, and two portables. Fact is....I just don't do as much as I once did and most of all that sits idle...or in the case of quad-core....used to watch old TV shows at HULU or Fancast. I haven't "tinkered" with hardware in years and just buy off the shelf now. My general interests shifted from the computers themselves, to what was happening on the net. They just became point-A to point-B devices.

Came over here from a dying SysOpt; I only build/fix pc's for very close friends and relatives these days. But I do like to keep up with technology. Haven't really asked for much help, but like to comment here and there. Still a software junkie, mainly OS' these days.

I will join in with that Maxx. I haven't been on this site very much lately. Life is just really busy and after spending about 60hrs/week sitting at the PC for work and volunteer work, I just want to get away from it for a while.
I also have now convinced most of the people in the area to get a UPS and keep their AV up-to-date so I very rarely have sick computers around.
I'm still around and glad to see some familiar faces from the old eras of 1998 (when I lurked), 1999 (when I joined) when the DOS and Win3.1 were almost as busy as the Windows 95 forum.

I've never understood most of it ... but I learned how to change out my fan and cd drive ... so I am capable of learning something new it seems :D
now if I could just stop being a chicken and learn how to add more ram lol :D

It's usually pretty easy to do.

Thanks Doc ... I'll put on my big girl pants one of these days and give it a shot. I have a Quad core and can't make use of it with just one lonely little stick of ram. I know... someone should slap me :D
It is how it came from the factory and I've never done anything with it. But now that I have more junk on it ... the poor little thing is slowing down .. and flash games are a killer on power right now *sigh*

Using that computer, go to Crucial.com, click on System Scanner > Scan My Computer and they'll tell you what all your RAM options are for that particular computer.
