I really hate it. I use the cached pages A LOT. Have yet to find a solution. Unlike last time it happened, clearing the browser caches doesn't change it back this time.
I understand and have no problem with Google trying out new things, that's how they can improve things. But the way they do it really sucks big time.
#1) Fine, try a new layout, but why doesn't it say something up front? A lot of users like me are ambushed by the sudden change and think that there's something wrong w/ our browsers and/or computers.
#2) If this is an experiment, you'd think that they want feedbacks. The easiest way to get feedback statistics is to offer a button to change it back and watch how many people keep the new one and how many people switch it back. Yahoo mail does that. Not only that there is no way to change it back, there is no way that I know of that I can tell Google my opinion on it.
I've heard that Google only hires the smartest people. The way I see it, they are not that smart after all.
Must be why they only have 23,000+ employees, run over one million servers in data centers around the world, processes over one billion search requests and about twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data daily, and made a mere 8.5 Billion$ profit (USD) in 2010. :rolleyes: :)Quote:

If we measure intelligent by $ one makes, I suppose only 1 or 2% of people on earth are smart b/c majority of the world’s wealth is in the hands of only 1 -2% of the population. And, it would mean that Einstein was a pretty dumb guy as although he was not poor but he was nowhere near being rich.
Perhaps IT IS b/c Google makes so much $, they figure they are invincible right now and they DON'T CARE about their customers anymore. They are saying, "Hey, Google is #1, you get what WE give you and if you don't like it, go to the other guy." You know what? Google! You can keep making those billions but Bing is my default search now!
No disrespect if you do work for Google, I certainly do not mean EVERY Google employee is dumb. I really mean it for Google the company, not any one individual.

#2) Any company who cares about customer satisfaction, yeah, they do reasearch what their customers like and dislike and, yeah, sometimes it involves conferring with the customers before changing. Many many companies enlist beta testers to gather feedbacks before their products are released to the general public. And, yeah, many of these beta testers are, well, just their regular customers.
A) you missed my point, apparently Goggle is doing this as a experiment, so, like I said,Will it kill Goggle to just give thier customers a choice on the layout? Really, it is THAT HARD!!!!!!! I may not be smart enough to work for Goggle but, really, I KNOW that it is not that hard at all.Quote:

B) Also,And, if they do care about their customers, why couldn't they have a button there saying, "Hey, do you like this new layout, submit your feedback here." Again, is it REALLY THAT HARD to do????!!!! No, it is not hard to do, especially, condering the fact that, as you pointed out, they are such a huge company w/ such huge resourses at their disposal.The reason they don't offer it is b/c they don't care!Quote:

I work for a software company and we too make decissions that we know someone is going to hate... And we do this knowing they might go shopping with our competitors and we'd loose large amounts of money with annual renewal fees...
True. You can't please everybody. While many users hate the new layout, I am sure many users love it. I am disappointed more b/c of the fact that I am forced to abandon Google, my long-time favorite search engine, b/c its search results no longer match my search habit.
Anyway, the real purpose of this thread is to find a solution, not to complaint. So, how does Google identify my computer to force my IE8 to use the new layout?
Apparently, only certain individual browsers will get this new layout. For example, all my other computers are still seeing the old layout. In this computer, only IE sees the new layout. When I use Chrome, it is still seeing the new layout.
We have established that they are not using cookies anymore for this. IP? I have clearing the cache and connected to another IP using my 3G connection. It doesn't work. So, they are not tracking it with my IP either.
I’ve uninstalled Google Toolbar and checked that there is no more Google related add-on. So, it’s not via add-on either.
This leads me to speculate that they must have modified my IE8 somehow.
It could be a registry entry or IE add-on. Have you tried running IE with no add-ons?
The only Google related add-on I had was the Google Toolbar which I uninstalled.
If they track my IE via the registry, mmm, it'll be a tough case to crack.
They have had this new layout for months now. (Or is this yet another disgusting change??)
I ask because i havent noticed anything different in the last week or so..
Yes, they have been doing it for a while but it is not a "gobal" change, so not everyone will get it at the same time.
