[RESOLVED] "Virus Protector" problem...

My friend's computer starts up with this fake program. I can't get past the screen that has the info on it at all. I've tried to start it in safe mode, but it's still there. I tried ctrl+alt+del to get to taskmanager, but I got the message that it was disabled by administrator. Is there a way to get past this screen so I can clean out the startup and start from there? Please let me know. Thanks.

Let's see, if we can look at your computer booting from an external source.

You will need USB flash drive to move information from bad computer to a working computer.

You need to download two programs.

First

ISO Burner this will allow you to burn REATOGO-X-PE ISO to a cd and make it bootable. Just install the programm, from there on it's fairly automatic (Instructions)

Second
- Download OTLPE.iso and burn to a CD using ISO Burner. NOTE: This file is 270.3 MB in size so it may take some time to download.
- When downloaded double click and this will then open ISOBurner to burn the file to CD
- Reboot your system (Non working computer) using the boot CD you just created.
  - Note. If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE
- Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
- Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
- When asked Do you wish to load the remote registry, select Yes
- When asked Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning, select Yes
- Ensure the box Automatically Load All Remaining Users is checked and press OK
- OTL should now start. Change the following settings
  - Change Drivers to All
  - Change Registry to All
- Press Run Scan to start the scan.
- When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
- Copy this file to your USB drive.
- Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.

Open Notepad and paste it.
Save the document as Fix.txt on to a USB flash drive

On the infected computer the following...

Run OTLPE
- Insert USB stick and find the file Fix.txt. Drag the file Fix.txt and drop it under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom.
  - (The content of Fix.txt should appear in the box)
- Then click the Run Fix button at the top
- Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
- Post the log produced (you'll need to transfer it with USB stick)
- Attempt to reboot normally into windows.

Oh, please don't be mad! I'm not a night person and attempted to do this last night. I was in a rush and somehow, I copied the whole post--not just the blue box "code". Anyway, I went to the infected computer and followed your directions. Things seem to happen, but then it froze. I realized my mistake, came back and just copied the "code". I went back to infected computer and followed same instructions. It did some stuff and then froze again at the same place--emptying temp files. I left it on all night in case it was just a super long process. Same thing this morning. I had to physically turn off the computer. So....

I started over with a new scan in case I messed something up. Here's the new scan. I attached it this time (since I just saw where I could). Hopefully I did right. Thanks! Attachment 9428

About how long should this process take? It's been about 10 minutes. It says the same thing that it did after running all night: Emptying Temp folder. DO NOT INTERRUPT...

I was very careful to copy everything in the blue box (and only in the blue box),

I let it run all night. This morning, it said the same thing about DO NOT INTERRUPT...

However, a program was on top of it about downloading/purchasing Window Blinds 4--something like that. I had to open task manager to delete it. It also said the OTL was "not responding", so I ended that task. I then rebooted to the OTL to get the attached scan.

I then tried to re-boot it in normal mode. It lets me enter my password, but all I get is a blue screen--even after a long time.

I then tried to boot it in safe mode. At first, it wouldn't let me enter the password (like maybe the keyboard wasn't working?). After 3 tries, it finally let me enter the password. A black screen opened up with Safe mode written on it, but no icons at all. I tried to open task manager, but got the message that it had been disabled by the administrator.

I then tried regular mode again. It's still sitting at the blue screen after about 30 minutes.

Let me know if there's something else to do. Thanks!!

This scan actually had an end to it! I attached the log it produced at the end. I rebooted in normal mode, and everything looks back to normal--yay! Is it? Let me know if there's something else I need to do. Thanks!

Excellent!
We just barely started.
Our main goal, so far, was to make your computer bootable.
Now, we have to make sure, your computer is clean.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  - Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  - Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
  NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
  - Close any open browsers.
  - WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  - Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  - If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!
