[RESOLVED] Disk space
I have an 80 gig HD and it show 74 gigs are being used. There is no way I am using that much. It did say this morning I only had 128 mb left and I know I had gigs left. uninstall as many things as I could. Looked at the programs and looks to me like only at the most 30 gigs should be used up. Is there a program that will show me what is using all the disk space up. I am running windows 7.
-
sorry I guess i should have up this in the windows 7 catagory. I would move it there but dont know how
-
I've moved it for you :)
80 gigs is not really enough for Win7 - it does use a lot of space. Mine, for example, is using getting on for half of a 200gig partition. You can clear a bit of room by deleting System Restore points, but really the only long-term answer is to get a bigger drive :(
-
Morning supersparks, already did the restore point thing.Money little tight that is why i havent got a bigger drive yet. Is there a free program to show me where all the file usage is being used, looked on explorer but doesnt show enough for me

I have a win 7 machine on an 80 gig drive...I don't have a ton of apps on it...but I do a have ton of free space. (approx 55 gigs)
You can weeks at the following site looking at all the goodies they have..and they have several apps that will help:

Thats what I am saying, I should have more that 5 gigs
-
Did space sniffer, what is pagefile.sys and hiberfile.sys . both use together 6 gigs alone
-
Pagefile.sys is your paging file (virtual memory). You need that one. If you don't need to hibernate the PC, you can delete the hibernation file (hyberfil.sys) though, which will be equal in disk space to the amount of RAM you have installed. To do that, type "power shell" without the quotes into the Start search box, and then at the command prompt, type "powercfg -h off" without the quotes.

just ran windirstat.nice program. But really AVG9 is using 39 Gigs? What the hey!
-
It shows in the avg directory there is something called emc using 37 gigs. Does anyone know anything about this?

something called emc
Need to try to be much more specific please;)
Have you looked in the AVG folder?
-
Lets put it this way I just got rid of AVG9 and now have 43 gigs of free HD space. When I ran windirstat program it showed that avg was using up 37.5 gigs and 36 of it was in folder call EMC in the AVG tree. Went to look at the AVG folder in explorer and didnt show the EMC folder and said the AVG folder was using mb of disk space not 37 gigs. All I know is just unistalled the avg and got 37.5 more gigs of free space. Told AVG about it on there uninstall questioner. But for now will put another Antivirus program on

Use this:
Microsoft Security Essentials
By far the best of the free AV programs, IMO. And uses very few resources too :)

the question is what caused the 37 gigs being used on avg
