UNKNOWN PCI DEVICE

hi ... I hope someone can help me ... I just installed a Radeon HD4350 video card ... the card is working and everything appears to be fine ... BUT, when I go into the control panel it is saying that there is an UNKNOWN PCI DEVICE which I have no idea what it is ... the video card is installed with no errors, its in the control panel .... I also noticed that there is now a STANDARD MODEM in the device manage ... this computer has NEVER had a modem ... so I have no idea where the modem came from and why I have an unknown PCI device ...
I'm looking at the the box the video card came in, and it says something about 7.1 channel sound ... could this be the unknown PCI device ... and does anyone have any ideas as to where this new found modem came from ...

Did you install the drivers for the sound card or not? I've seen PCI sound cards come up as modems or unknown devices many times.

there was already a sound card in the computer ... when I installed the video card all I did was put the cd in and click install .... it never asked anything about sound ... all I did was put in a new PCI express video card .. the old card in the computer was an AGP ....

Reinstall the sound card.

Did you try just removing the devices and seeing if they come back? Did you uninstall the old video card drivers first?

Go to Device Manager, right-click the unknown device and choose Properties, then in the Details tab select "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down list. Post back with what it says please.

the sound card is working and there are no errors with it ... I did try removing it and as soon as the comp boots back up windows says it found new hardware ... I have installed everything from the cd that came with the video card, and I'm still trying to figure out where the modem came from

Did you install the full catalyst drivers or only the video driver?

as far I know I think I installed everything .... I put the cd in and instead of doing the express install, I clicked on custom to see what it was going to install, I never unchecked anything ... and then I hit install .... the computer to the best of my knowledge never had dotnetframework installed on it, and I did notice that when the cd went to install that, it was fast, I got the impression that maybe it didn't install it, I'm not sure ....

I never use the included CD. By the time you get it, the drivers are already outdated. Download the current drivers from the ATI site.

thankyou ... I will give that a try .... I might not be able to do that until later tonight ... its my husbands computer and sometimes I think he is bonded to it ..
he suffers serious withdrawal symptoms if he has to get off the damn thing for more than a minute :eek: ... but, I will do what you suggested and let you know how things turn out ... according to your previous posts, this unknown pci device does have something to do with the ATI card ???

Yes. The Vendor ID is ATI. Just need to find the right driver now.

If/where applicable,
Double check the video card manufacturers' website for applicable drivers.
eg. HDMI port.

well I tried uninstalling the card and reinstalling and the unknown PCI device is still there ... I went to the manufacturers website and the drivers there didn't seem to have the same things that were on the cd .... when I did the reinstall with the cd I did notice that it installed a driver for the HDMI port, but like I said the error is still there ... when I installed the card I had to move a couple of PCI cards to different slots, one was the ethernet card and the other was a card that had 2 usb things on it, but they are working .... the computer has a firewire connection that was listed in the control panel prior to installing the new video card and that doesn't appear to be listed anymore .... is there something I should check for in the bios ... I'm at a loss ... the only thing I guess I could do is hit the don't show me this message anymore, but I would like to solve the problem with the device ... any other suggetions

Who is the manufacturer of the card? ATI is the chipset maker, but you didn't state the actual brand. You probably need to get the HDMI drivers off their site or the CD.
