Prefer to have a single program that can backup your profile and settings for multiple types of browsers instead of using many different programs? Now you can simplify the backup and restore process with FavBackup.
Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer (6 – 8), Mozilla Firefox (2 – 3.5), Opera (9), Safari (3 – 4), Google Chrome (1 – 3)
If you've never thought to backup your favorites, and in my experience that's most users, say thanks to Broni for this post. Several years ago I lost my favorites and I'm still trying to find some sites. Stop what you're doing and backup NOW.

Another one is Mozbackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ (only for Mozilla products), and I prefer FEBE: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109, which backs up all my Firefox settings every night automatically, so I don't have to remember anything.
I use Xmarks too, but more for synchronizing my bookmarks between the desktop, and a laptop.
I went to the sites of the listed links and read what they all had to say. I just want an easy to use backup program for my Firefox. I don't use IE (have not in years) and have no interest in using Google's Chrome. So which do any of you suggest would be the easiest to use. I mainly want to backup my Bookmarks and my password list. If I download and install any of these programs, how would I get the program to backup everything to my external hard drive (I guess you would call it my slave drive)?

I just downloaded the first one you linked to because I don't plan on backing up every night--just once a week.

I decided tonight to backup my Firefox as suggested here in this thread. Even though I had downloaded Mozbackup, I had not installed it yet. As always, I like to go to the web site of the author who created a program and read all about it--just in case there are any special instructions about installing, etc. It's a good thing that I did because from everything I read on the site, it only supported up to Windows XP, and plus, you had to have Thunderbird email also. I have Vista and even though I have Firefox, I don't have Thunderbird and am not really interested in getting it. So now I have an email into the author of the program to ask him about the OS requirements and about weather I had to have Thunderbird or not. I am keeping my fingers crossed because I really did want a backup program for my Firefox that would back up all my Bookmarks and passwords for all my sites.
When you suggested this program, what is the OS that you have and do you have Thunderbird?

I have Vista as well, and Mozbackup works fine.
As for TBird, Mozbackup offers TBird backup also, but you don't have to have TBird installed in order to run Firefox backup.
Mozbackup screen gives you a choice, what you want to backup at particular moment:

When I received your reply in my email program, Window's mail would not let me do anything with it. The message I got said that the email was suspicious and was probably phising (misspelled I am sure). And the whole thing was in red when I opened the folder (my computer help folder) where the message was stored. As many emails as I have gotten over the years from Virtual Dr. this is the first time this has happened. Wonder why? I had to unblock it before it would even let me click on the link for this thread.
Well I am glad that you cleared up my question about the backup program because everything I had read where it showed the system requirements never listed Vista. (And I learned from past mistakes, to always make sure anything was Vista compatible!) And I did read on one of the other sites that reviewed the program that to make sure I had Tbird installed first. So now I will get off this site and go back up my Firefox! :cool:

I thought everything was taken care of, but something went wrong and I followed all instructions exactly as I interpreted them on the web site for Mozbackup. This is what happened. First I stopped everything from running so nothing would interfere with the install, (I always check for viruses,etc first before installing), then I clicked to install. In a Window was something that said, "Select the profile you want to backup" and under that was listed Firefox and then under Firefox was portable. I chose Firefox (won't let you chose both anyway) and then I hit next. Then there was another window that showed something that said, Profile and listed inside of that said, "default". I had no idea if I was suppose to leave it that way or if I was suppose to type something in there in place of the word "default", so I just left it like it was. And below that was 3 icons, one was Refresh, next to it was Portable, next to that was New Profile-which that one was grayed out. Then where the box is that shows you where it will be installed to, said it would install it to my C drive, but I did not want my backup files to go to my main drive (in case it ever crashed) so I hit the Browse button and browsed to my external hard drive and told it to save it to a folder I had created just for Firefox backups (with that name). After I did that it took me back to the window I was just on but the "Next" button was grayed out and would not let me go any further. So I got desperate and hit the Refresh button to see if it would do anything, but nothing happened. So next I hit the Portable button, and directed the path to the folder I had created for my Firefox backup files--and a window popped up and said that there was nothing in there. So now I am stuck for what I am suppose to do. What did I do wrong?

Let's see, where you got stuck.
After opening Mozbackup, it'll ask you which application you want to backup - you chose Firefox.
Then, it asks you, which profile you want to backup - you selected "default", which in most cases should do.
