Internet Explorer 8
I have been following the threads on IE8 and I'm wondering if its safe to download this yet .. I have IE8 on a test computer running WinXP and it appears to be running great, no issues .. I have tried Firefox and for some reason Firefox runs slower than IE8, and I don't like the way Firefox puts a dashed box around links that I click on .... I also have VISTA on my laptop and when IE8 first came through on the auto updates the size of it was approximately 15 megs ... then it disappeared from the auto updates, and a few days later came back now at a download size of approximately 23 megs ... have the issues with IE8 and Vista been fixed, being the reason why the initial download was only 15 megs and now its 23 megs ... I understand that sometimes the software isn't the issue, that sometimes its the computer running the software ... are many people on this forum running IE with Vista, if so, are you having any issues .... as mentioned I'm not overly thrilled with Firefox, I have also tried Opera on my test computer which is better than Firefox, but for some reason on this crazy test computer IE8 is running far superior to either one of them ..
I would like to install IE8 on my laptop which is running VISTA, that is why I'm asking for anyone running IE8 with VISTA to let me know what issues they have encountered ... also, would it be a better idea to maybe download IE8 from Microsoft, like I did with SP2, instead of installing it through the automatic updates ...
thanks for any help ....

Just my .02 worth....I had IE8 on both my computers and it ran very well, and like you mentioned, also fast. But...on both comps...there was a site where the scrolling was always jerky...like a slight delay between the rolling of the wheel and the actual scrolling of the page. I tried the compatibility feature but it didn't clear up the jerky scrolling. Other than that one glitch, I thought IE8 was real quick. I went back to IE7. I particularly like the zoom feature in IE7 ( IE8 has the same feature), since my old eyeballs don't focus like they used to...:(.

thankyou for the reply ... was it just because of this one site that you removed IE8 ... did you have IE8 installed on a VISTA machine or was it XP ...
-
i still cant get ie8 to work fast on my vista machine i have tried everthing i could google for and all suggestion on this forum and no help. it is fast on xp and 7rc, still trying to figure out the cure

is it that much slower than IE 7 on vista

I have XP Pro...and there was only one site that had the scrolling problem...everything else seemed okay.

I have it installed on an XP machine and it is great ... I'm wondering about putting it on a VISTA machine

IE8 has some problems. Many people do not experience these and seem to like it. Others wind up uninstalling it. (So you usually do not have to worry you are taking an irreversible step if you install it.)
Here are two of the bigger problems
http://windowsfixup.com/2009/03/spee...et-explorer-8/ (frebo--this could be your problem)
http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/0...atibility-list
You can see there are fixes or workarounds for these problems.
I remain with IE7 and hope things will be improved when IE8 SP1 comes out or just later in the year when more sites will be compliant.

seems like it just might be a hit and miss ... I may give a try and see what happens ... sooner or later it will have to be installed ... I'm not too impressed with Firefox or Opera .... I don't like the way that when you click on a link with Firefox it puts this big box around the link ... I know it may seem silly but I just don't like it ... and I haven't found the speed of Firefox to be any big deal .. as mentioned I have found Firefox to be alot slower ....

i disabled all addons
The issue is not addons, but rather the number of sites in Restricted Sites as entered by Spybot and some other programs like IESpyAds.

the restricted sites were cleared out and i dont have spybot i was told on another forum to try running with no addons

Just to add another opinion into the IE8/Vista fray. I'm running Vista Home Premium, sans SP2.
I finally got the Windows Update notification regarding IE8 for Vista yesterday. Since the actual update said "Internet Explorer for Vista", I decided to try the new browser again.
My first experience with it, a while back, was when it was a final RC and I downloaded it from the Microsoft site. Right off the bat, I didn't like it. It was slower, pages wouldn't load or loaded strangely. I played with it for a few days, and finally uninstalled it reverting back to IE7.
Now I'm giving it another shot. The slowness problem doesn't seem as bad, but I have run into a few web pages not loading at all. I'm gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and let it stay for a while this time.....unless it gets really annoying :p.
