IDE to Sata Issue
Have a question with a new HD. Friend bought a SATA WD 500gb hd. Problem is he didn't realize his pc did not support SATA. Ordered a RAID CARD ROSEWILL|RC-201 2P SATA R to adapt from IDE to SATA. Also the power cable apt and sata cable.... I know the card will have drivers to install.. I was just concerned when the card is installed will there be any issues installing since a new HD will added also..... since the drivers cannot be added until the HD is formatted and the OS is in operation...... WinXp home..

The drivers for the card can be installed using the old F6 button at the start of the OS install.

Note that the drivers will have to be on floppy disk, that is all WinXP will accept when using the F6 key during Setup.
-
Would I possibly get a prompt to install any drivers? after the cd is started?
-
When it talks about SCSI drivers to use F^ that is where you feed it the floppy.
See Windows see ATA, SATA, etc.drivers as SCSI types and so that is why you need to use the F6 key to unstall them.
what it looks like.

Yes indeed, not long after Setup starts, at the bottom of the screen. If memory serves, it says about "SCSI drivers". That's the one you want.
-
Or alternatively, if you do not have floppy, you can slipstream a copy of your operating system to include the new drivers. Here's an intro using nlite: http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slip...rs-into-xp-cd/

Would they include a floppy? I ask because anymore most of these are on cd...., but I assume the same procedure would apply.............?
-
We end up making the floppy.
-
Recieved the SATA card..... I proceeded to copy the files instructed to a floppy. Which is \SATAraidRaid_2Port\Sil3x12\Win_me2000_xp_nt4.0\driver*.*.. Problem.. this file is 32mb....... So,, will a thumb drive work? Im thinking the system will not recognize the thumb drive at this point............
-
Not with XP, floppy only.
Explore the cd and find the XP driver and put the contents of the folder on a floppy.
-
The manual states: Before installation, copy all the files under the directory ( listed in last post ) to a blank floppy disk....... This file contains: 64bit_windows 316kb... GUI 32.2mb... and Win98_me_2000_xp_nt4.0 317kb ..... It states all files...
-
I know, but, we need to do as I posted.
I run into the same type of problem with my ATA133 card. .
-
I opened Win98_me_2000_xp_nt4.0 317kb file.. I see it contains or shows drivers. Could this be the actual file needed?

Do you see folders in there?
