Yeah, my home PC has a 4 year old Abit mobo. Still going strong.
Wow...like SpywareDr said, they used to make pretty good boards. I used to swear by Abit boards (as opposed to swearing at them like some other mobos I've had).
It is sad to see them go.

I've lost track of how many machines I've built using Abit boards and never had a DOA. Both of my home computers, my parents' machine, the kids, all of my customers...
Maybe someone will have a change of heart or some enthusiast will step in. Oh, well.
So now what are they going to manufacture? Key fobs made from surplus Abit printed circuit boards? Already been done. Virtual pocket protectors? You gotta find some virtual pens and pencils first. 50KB flash drives? Talk about retro.... See-through sweatshirts? Kinky, but impractical. Manual cranking DVD burners? I already tried that idea...they're still laughing at the patent office...
I used to swear by Epox (then they closed; and Supox is not nearly as good IMO), now Abit is shutting down (and no successor in sight)...
What is left in the affordable, yet highly customizable area, especially for AMD CPU's?

The Gigabyte looks in my price range, yet the reviews are a bit concerning (downgraded chipset, failures etc).
What else is our there?

I have built systems with Abit,Intel,Asus ,Msi, ONE ECS,never again, but I have built the last six using---Don't laugh--Biostar,the last one a Biostar TA 770A2+.It uses the Phenom 9950 cpu and 8500 memory and is an easy board to overclock with the included software if you are into overclocking! I have yet to have trouble with any of the Biostar boards and have never had an AMD cpu give me any problem, And the motherboards are priced reasonable.
Thanks Pappamike - I recall having used two or three Biostars in the past as well w/o problems. They were just always considered very low end... but times (and budgets) have changed... might have to give them a closer look again.

I've taken a few Biostar boards in trade (Socket 370 and 462) and played around with the BIOSes. I might take another look their way.
Any thoughts out there on Microstar/MSI? They used to be used for OEM eMachines systems (amongst others) - a BIG two strikes against them in my book - but some people love them. No experience with them yet, myself.
I have been using MSI boards for years. And have seen only one post anywhere where the had a problem in the last couple years. RMA took care of that .
Only tried four MSI mobos,
No issues encountered as of yet...
