Opened the Comcast web page and clicked on a news link. My page turned into a 2 inch square at the bottom right of the screen and a box popped-up in the middle of the screen asking me to install this nasty. I have CA-Antivirus and spywareblaster installed,but they failed to recognize this one. Just be aware and don't tell it to install if it comes up on your screen. :mad:
just happened to me .... I am going to run hijackthis right now, is there anything else I need to do .... I clicked CANCEL when the screen popped up ...
If you clicked on cancel,your probably ok. You can get the uninstall info off of the link I gave and check to see if any of it is onboard though...
I did click CANCEL .... I ran a hijackthis scan and there was nothing out of the ordinary in it ... I also checked the link you posted and again, I found nothing ... what is the difference between malwarebytes and superantispyware ... do they both do the same thing ... I did have superantispyware on one of the computers that I solely use for testing things and downloading and I noticed that there was always a little icon down by the clock that would load everytime the comp was turned on ... is there a way to install superantispyware without having that little icon always there ... is one of these programs better than the other ... I already use spybot ... should I be using both superantispyware and malwarebytes, along with spybot ... guess what I really want to know is spyware different than malware ?? ... as you can tell I'm a little confused :eek:
They're complimentary to each other. I found out, in 99% cases, one of them misses some stuff, which is found by the other.Quote:

The best way, is to run them both.
To answer your question about the tray icon in SUPERantispyware. Just go into the preferences on the main page and take the check out of 'show SUPERantispyware icon in system tray' under the general/startup tab...
thanks Broni .. is there a way that I can have superantispyware not load the icon at startup ... sorry I just saw the second post by ridgerunr ... if I do what you say, will that little window for superantispyware not show up either ....
Superantispyware (free version) doesn't give you real-time protection, so it doesn't have to be run as a startup. You may uncheck it through msconfig.
thankyou ... I have it installed and I have the icon thing unchecked, I did it the way ridgerunr suggested ... I've just got one last question .. under the scanning preferences there is a long list of things, what items should be checked off .. I notice some are checked and some aren't ... thanks a million for your help

You have to do it through msconfig.
As for options:
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
o Close browsers before scanning.
o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
Broni: As far as I can see, the SAS auto start can be disabled from the SAS Preferences Tab (See the red box in my capture.) But the disable tray icon box is there too. (The yellow box.) The red one is what MESA Boogie is looking for. The registry key in question is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Unchecking the box in SAS Preferences deletes the SAS auto run from this section. Seems like this would be preferable/cleaner than msconfig??

Han ... the screenshot you posted is what I am referring to ... I have the program downloaded to a computer I use for testing and I have unchecked the two boxes that are in your screenshot .... I really don't like going into msconfig and messing around with things unless its absolutely necessary ... with those 2 boxes unchecked is the program still running in the background ... the little icon down by the clock is definitely gone and the only time I see the splash screen for the program is when I click on it to run it ... I realize the free version doesn't include real time protection, I just don't like having all kinds of things loading at startup, Vista has enough going on without adding to it ... with these boxes unchecked, do I have go into the registry and delete the key you are referring to or does the unchecking of the auto start delete the key in the registry on its own ... thanks a million for all the help ...
