Desktop icons clear no color behind names..

On my Desktop, I would like the icons as they are,, but the names underneath not to have any color bars.. I.E. Clear...
Right now I am bouncing around using black, white, grey, blue etc and I cannot find the combination needed to have this 'clear banner' where the name would be under the icon itself.

any ideas??

R-click the desktop and select properties.
Select the Appearance tab.
Click the Effects button.
Put a check in "Show Shadow under Menus"

I believe that is what I used.

canada5611, In addition to the instructions at the link I posted do the following:

Right click your Desktop, choose "Properties", under the "Desktop" tab click the "Customize Desktop" button, under the "Web" tab make sure that everything is unchecked, click OK/Apply/OK.

The box at the bottom that says, "lock desktop items" is unchecked but the box above that has nothing in it. Still no transparency on the icon names

The problem is the black boxes behind the desktop icon names. I want them to be transparent with a picture set as the wall paper. Everything I have read on the forums of correcting this problem hasnt worked for me. So if there is any other ideas please help. Thanks

Right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Performance, Settings button. Look for the desktop settings and scroll to the bottom---> Drop Shadows for Desktop Icons.

ive done it and everything else and it has not worked for me but thanks any other suggestions are appreciated

Go to KellysKorner, click on the I in the alphabet string and scroll down to Icons - Transparent. Make sure you've done everything suggested.

i really have done everything listed and suggested, and undone them and redone them. This is becoming really annoying does anyone else have any ideas to help? thanks

Try this ... Click Start | Run, type in cmd and press [Enter]. At the command prompt, type in:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

and press [Enter].

(Then type

exit

and press [Enter] to close the command window).

Note: You may need to reboot after doing this.

Right-click on Desktop - "Arrange Icons by" and make sure 'Lock Web items' is UNchecked.

Transparancy doesn't work with .HTML files, make sure the background is not HTML
(So as already said) UNcheck ALL checkboxes in:
Control Panel - Display Properties - Desktop tab - Customize Desktop -
Web tab.

Have you installed any videocard drivers on that computer? It's just dawned on me, looking at that image, that it looks like a brand-new install of XP before all the chipset & video drivers have been added. (XP would normally have a clear image/pic of some sort.) Without video drivers, some graphics features are unuseable.

canada5611, Try going into Display Properties>Themes tab and change the current theme to something else the reboot your computer. Did you ever have any icon tweak type program installed as I recall some time ago someone else had a similar problem and it was caused by a third party icon tweaking program?
