Safely Remove Hardware - There is nothing!!!

Background:
I purchased my new PC a month ago and I downloaded a virus: JS/Pyrne
AVG detected it, but could not get rid of it. So I went in and deleted it from quarantine and ran another test and it found nothing. I didn't trust it, so I donwloaded Kaspersky 7.0 and tried the free scan. It found nothing...

But lately, when i "x" out to close my IE browser, it takes a good 3 seconds for the window to disappaear (I have Vista Home Pre). It has never done that before. Can my PC be infected with something or is there something that is going on in the background? I also noticed (from my Vista sidebar gadget) that my processors are running on high (85%+) at times. And my RAM is also higher than normal. (My stats are below).

The slow IE closing is probably related to the high cpu useage. I've seen a similar thing once when I was dowloading a large email...

I see Steve's already suggested what I would have.

If you should get to the point where you run HijackThis, go to the Misc. Tools section and select Open Uninstall Manager; click on Save List, saving it to your desktop. Open it, then copy-&-paste it into your next post. We can take a look at your installed programs to see what could use removing. Do the same for Generate StartupList Log so we can see what's using up your resources.

Everytime I restart my PC ( Vista Prem), the desktop loads up normally, but then a USB "You can safely remove your hardware" window pops up (both in the system tray & desktop). I troubleshooted it and HP found that the driver is installed incorrectly or something else is wrong. I tried to update the driver online, but it says "a driver cannot be found". The USB location says "Generic port" . The device manager says it is the SM/xD, SD/MMc, MS/msPro, G, H, I, J drives. I have nothing connected to the USB except for my printer which works fine. I looked in the "start-up" programs, but I don't know what to look for.
I don't know if my PC has a virus. I ran Kaspersky and CA and it found nothing. I can simply close the "hardware and remove it" (even though there is nothing), but I am afraid it is robbing me of resources. Lately my RAM has been running high and IE7 has been slow.
Do you have any ideas? Sorry for the long message, but if you can help I would appreciate it. If you need more info, please let me know! Thanks.

I've merged your latest new thread in with this one, as it keeps coming back to your original question about malware. You've run two or three respected scans and have a good A/V installed as well, all of which have told you you're clean. I don't know what else we can do to reassure you that you can go on the internet and come off of it without being stricken by something.:)

As far as your system slowness goes, I gave you some suggestions to follow in post #4. (You can get HijackThis from the link here.) Until you post those logs, it's impossible to know what to remove from your computer.

The "remove hardware" message is one of those niggling little XP/Vista annoyances regarding USB card readers; the OS sees them as removable storage devices even though they're hard-mounted, simply because they're USB. You get used to it.

Okay...I will post this log in both of my posts per request of the mods (thanks for all your help). I have been having a hellish time with my month-old PC. A part of me feels I am trying to find a problem thats isn't there and the other part feels it is not working as it was. I had downloaded a virus (JS/Pryme) discovered by AVG free. I deleted it, but it seems that IE7 was acting slow. So I thought there was some infectious malware or harmful files. So I ran 2 free scans (by Kaspaersky and CE) and it found nothing. Going in deeper in to this I decided to restore my PC from an earlier date. I tried that, now my AVG fails to load. It says "failed to initialize AVG kernal interface'". I contacted AVG support but haven't heard anything.

So upon the advice of mods, I downloaded hijack this and here is my log. Tell me, 1.) what can be making my PC run slower, and 2.) why does AVG not run?

While I'm at it, where did you get the Beta version of HJT? It's unreliable, so we don't use it here.

3. The best thing to do to restore your AVG is to undo the System Restore you did earlier. Go to All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore and follow the instructions for doing so.

I did undo the system restore this morning and AVG still doesn't work. I used BETA hijack becuase it was compatible for Vista (from CNET.com).

Click on the word "here" in my last post, it's a link to our HJT forum sticky. It goes to the latest version.

You'll probably have to download AVG all over again, install it over itself, then uninstall it so that you get all the corrupted files removed. Reboot, then install all over again from scratch.

One thing that's easily overlooked, but that can be responsible for serious slowdowns, is failure to run disk cleanup at least once a month.I have just cleaned out a relative's computer who was complaining of very slow performance, and they had over a gigabyte in temp files, etc.

If you haven't already done so, go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, and click on disk cleanup. Let it run (it will probably take several minutes) and delete whatever it returns. Then reboot.

I have told you twice already - your HJT log is CLEAN. There is NO malware there. There are unknown running processes in the backgtround. When you get around to posting the two logs I asked you to post, I can suggest what to disable or remove in order to help speed up your computer. I have read everything you've posted, and have been trying to get you to follow my instructions. When you do so, we can continue further.
