Hiya gang....
Just a little rant after returning from a trip to Cicuit City....
It's getting out of hand now with the ammount of information that the cashiers are asking for on a cash purchase. I overlooked when they used to ask for your zip code....got a bit miffed when they started asking for a phone number.....and got downright hostile today when they asked for phone number, name and address.
Too many places are asking too many questions these days. If it was a credit purchase...I could believe some security story about it being a way to authenticate the user or something, but a cash purchase should require nothing more than, "Here's your change....have a nice day". This constant need for personal identifiable marketing information is getting on my nerves now. Sure...I can give a false name and phone number....but why should I have to even be in a position to need to lie?
Today when the kid asked for my phone number, I said it was unlisted and I wanted to keep it that way. He looked puzzled....but immediately came to question two: "Name and address, please"
I sorta snapped and asked why in the world they needed to know all this just to buy some dink software and an old clearance sale floppy drive. His reply is that in case I lost my receipt....they would have a record and would be able to handle a return if it was necessary. I said forget the information...I'll keep a close eye on the paper receipt and not lose it. He seemed a bit confused....like nobody had ever made a stink about this procedure before.
Anyway folks....I made the purchase without giving them any personal information. I think if everybody 'made a scene' when they get asked these questions...they will stop the practice. So in the future when Ken the super-cashier asks you for personal info...tell him to shut up, it's none of his business.
You don't give actual personal information to every website that asks....right? So why do it in the real world.
Rant over....
