ActiveX fix expired. Now what?
I kept getting this pop--up message "Click to run an ActiveX program on this page".
I was told that a fix was needed. I did the fix. I was also told that the fix would expire in June. It did expire. I was also told that there was something I would have to do when the fix expired. Like an idiot I didn't copy that info.
I went to google and tried to find something about the activeX expiring and what to do about it. All I could find was some page that claimed to tell what to do, but it was so technical that I couldn't figure out what they were saying. I hope I didn't have to get a degree in computer engineering to fix this.
Now that the temporary fix for ActiveX has expired, what is the next step? I mean, what do I have to do to get the pop stopped again?
The page where this is happening uses Shockwave. As far as I know I have the latest version of Shockwave since I have Shockwave 10. Is there a later version? If I downloaded that would it stop the pop-up message?
ActiveX fix expired. Now what?
Jim,
I put the site in the trsuted file like you suggested. It DID not fix the problem.
I clicked on the link you provided for MSDN and while there is a wealth of info there I could not really understand it and therefore was not sure what to do. I mean, it's of a technical level above me and didn't, as far as I could tell, directly reference the problem of the fix expiring.
If I tell you the name of the website will that help? Can you go there and tell me what you see and if you can figure out what to do about it? The site is called Moneyballs.com. You need not worry about giving them your email address to play. I have never got any kind of spam mail from them, at least not in five years.
I'm afraid I need something that spells it out simply for a person. Like, "Here is what you do to fix the activeX control problem. You simply click on this link or download this fix, or whatever the appropriate action is."
I'm sorry to be such a dolt, but if I weren't I wouldn't be needing to ask for help, I guess.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
ActiveX fix expired. Now what?
Again, I apologize for being such a dolt.
I clicked on the links you provided and supposedly they were supposed to be the update fix for the problem. But none of the downloads I tried wanted to work. They kept telling me that the download I selected did not match the version of IE that I have installed. I have IE 6 which was the version mentioned so I don't know what the problem is there. But I did notice that they were several versions of the download. I spent over an hour trying three of them and were told all of them are incompatible. I have XP 2002 and service pack two. Perhaps that is the problem because the updates all talked about XP 2003. I see from the earlier thread that you showed me that this was the problem last time. I was downloading the wrong version of the update then, too. But I couldn't see from the earlier thread what I did different.
The pop-up you asked me about looks like the second or lower one on the page you provided.
Obviously, I don't want to spend any more hours downloading the wrong update.
If I could juut be told what EXACT download to install I could get it done.
Also, if there was a place to download an update to 912812 on that page I ddin't see it. All I could see was it talking about the temporary fix being replaced by a permanent one. That would be good. Then I wouldn't have to pester anyone about this anymore.
And also, I set my security settings on TRUSTED SITES to low. That didn't help either.
Thanks for your help so far. Let's hope we can finally solve this.
ActiveX fix expired. Now what?
Jim,
It was the correct download at the link you provided. It installed and didn't tell me that it was incompatible. However, it made no difference. I am still getting the same pop-up. Before you ask, I even tried restarting and clearing my cache. I also believe it is the correct update since the date of this update was Feb. of this year and I did the previous update in Dec. 2005.
So maybe it is a matter of Shockwave being corrupted? I suspect this because there is a place on their front page where it says to click Shockwave on or off. And even though I click to have Shockwave on, it won't stay clicked in the On spot. It keeps going to the off box.
Anyway. What do you think?
I hope you can make heads or tails of this. I am awaiting your advice.
UPDATE:
BTW, I uninstalled and reinstalled Shockwave since the newest version came out in March and didn't have that. It still didn't make any difference. I'm still getting the pop-up and Shockwave still won't stay in the clicked ON position.
What advice now?
ActiveX fix expired. Now what? (NOT resolved)
See the last post by me in this thread. Is it puzzling you too?
ActiveX fix expired. Now what?
Yes, that is the problem. All I get is the pop-up saying to click to run activeX and when I do everything is OK. But it's so aggravating when downloading the fix last time fixed it right away so no more pop-up.
I am only getting this message on one site.
The site is :http://www.moneyballs.com
I don't know if you can see what I mean unless you join the site. But don't worry. I have been a member for six years and they are as good as their words. They WILL NOT send you spam.
ActiveX fix expired. Now what? (Still not resolved.)
I went into IE tools security custom etc and clicked enable avtiveX programs and plug-ins. It ddn't make any difference. If I remember correctly, we tried this last time.
Welshjim? Have you looked at the site yet where this is happening?
Any ideas?
