Hi. I just built the computer I've been talking about. Yes, it's finally done. Well every time I start it up, it goes for about a half of a second, then stops. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Did you assemble this outside the case first? I'm assuming you didn't. but anyway, did you make sure there are no standoffs where there shouldn't be any? Did you use the standoffs? Did you use thermal grease between the cpu and heatsink/fan assembly? All of these can cause shut offs.
Yes, I used thermal grease. And... excuse my noobieness (I had someone help me today) What's a standoff?
A standoff is a small brass object with male screw thread on one end and a female screw receptacle on the other where you put the mobo screws in to hold it to the case. If you get one standoff in the wrong spot, that is where there is no screw hole in the mobo, it can cause your computer to not boot.
Uh, a bunch of these screws came with my case... but just so I'm sure, do you have any pics of them implated in a Mobo?
EDIT: I didnt use any of them :X. I used the normal screws to screw in the motherboard...
I don't have a picture of them installed but the below jpg will show you what they look like. And if you didn't use any of them that came with your case, and you just screwed the motherboard to the bottom of the case....I hope you didn't cause you could very well have shorted your new motherboard.
Also, did you plug in the four pin 12v power cable?
Yes.Quote:

Wow, my friend and I are ubernewbZ!
What about the standoffs? Did you use those?
No. I just used normal screws to screw in the motherboard to the Case. Would that be causing the stopping?
YES You will be lucky if you havent ruined your MB
YES!!! If you didn't use them as I already stated and I see eddds did too, you'll be lucky you didn't ruin/burn up your motherboard.
Remove it now from the case and apply the standoffs, then screw it back down. You might get lucky and not have caused any damage. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Wait... I just removed everything. I hope I'm safe. Should I put the screws in the standoffs?
Yes, the screws go in the standoffs. After you've screwed the standoffs in the case holes. Make sure they line up correctly, because if they don't, you'll still have the same problems.
