page display problems

id be surfing for 5-10 minutes then suddenly i get a page cannot be displayed or action cancelled and the only way i can surf again is if i reboot. this happens every time now and i dont know what i did to cause it, if i deleted some important system files. its not because by any spyware or virus.

the connection only lasts for less than 10 min and i have to reboot to be able to surf again. even when im not surfing but the computer is on for awhile (just on, no activity) and then surf does the problem occur. so i have to reboot every 10 min. just to start surfing again. i dont know if theres something wrong with my modem cos the activity lights are are all blinking and i am able to surf for 10 min. at a time.

are there any computer or network properties i can change? i already restored my registry to its previous state before the problem, emptied the temp folders, etc. cleaned it of viruses and spyware, but none of that worked. im stumped as to what to do now. :confused:

Are you using ZoneAlarm now or have you used it in the past?

its a cable modem, usb network adapter (ethernet)

ive used zonealarm in the past but uninstalled it awhile back. why?

when im surfing there are no other programs running in the background.

I've had problems with ZoneAlarm locking my browser even thogh its been uninstalled. It needs to be cleaned from the registry also.

Do you ocassionally cycle your Modem? Modems use error correction and after awhile become "clogged". Just power it off and wait about a minute and repower it.

im trying to update my download manager but it wont connect to server even though i can open sites. it has built in audio/video preview. and i cant open a video clip from my browser with media player anymore (Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again)

now what?

as for the previous post i dont turn off my computer very often (if thats what u mean by modem cycling) but when i did turn it off and turned it back on the next day no luck. i even disconnected and reconnected the chords behind the modem but that still didnt help after rebooting.

there were only 2 zonealarm entries in my registry and i deleted them both but the problem persisted.

i cant leave my computer on to surf for more than 10 min. at best.

What download manager are you using?

its just called free download manager. i cant download anything off it it like i used to.

is it related to the problem? it happened at the same time.

Its very possible. Those programs are often bundled with adware/spyware.

Press Ctrl+Alt+del and post back the list you see there. Those are the running programs. If we can figure out which one is that download manager we can stop it from running at startup with msconfig. If you can tell then just highlight it and press end task. You need to check that it is gone as sometimes you need to do that three or four times.

To use msconfig go to Start>Run and type in msconfig, press OK. Go to the startup tab. The checked items are the ones that run at startup and rarely are they all neccessary. You need to be careful about what you uncheck in there as some of them have to be running for your computer to operate properly.

the only programs running when i press ctrl-alt-del is my browser, systray, and rundll32. the running processes are greenbrowser kernel32.dll, mprexe.ese, msgsrv32.exe, explorer, and systray.exe.

i used to be able to run download manager when there were many more programs running in the background. whats wrong now?

If the download manager isn't working it could be trying to get something it can't find.

First thing I would do is uninstall it. They aren't really neccessary unless you have a dialup connection that kicks you off a lot.

rundll32. That shouldn't be showing. End task on that and see what happens. Don't you have any AV or Firewall?

Is that from msconfig?

the download manager keeps saying 'cant connect to the server' but i have no trouble getting online. 10 min. later the 'cant display page' error comes up. i cant open sites or new links so i have to reboot. thats reboot every 10 min.

i have high speed cable so im never disconnected. connection to the internet is fine, the modem shows activity, send and receive lights are blinking on and off. im able to surf the web ok even though the download manager insists it cant connect to the server.

closing rundll doesnt help anything. i have a firewall installed but its not running.

Turn off or uninstall the download manager. Is that a problem?

uninstall or turn off download manager is no problem. only downloading and web surfing is affected

Don't understand that. You don't need it to download or surf.

go back and reread the previous posts and what the original problem is.

download manager cant connect to server but i can still surf and after every 10 min. of surfing i get the page error so i have to reboot. my problem basically is disconnection from server after a few minutes of surfing.

confusing, i know. sorry cant explain it any other way.
