Christmas Curse

Hi, I thought this year maybe the curse was broken, 30 years ago we bought a new car and drove across the continent on Christmas morning the battery was dead, service was good and it was replaced. Now for the past thirty years on EVERY Christmas eve we have electrical problems in one of our family cars. Last year a new car's battery boiled on the way up the coast on Christmas eve. I prayed and burnt incense this year but to no avail, now 250 klms from home my daughters new BMW has failed to proceed, electrical problem, and possibly blown head gasket. I wonder, around here, it is known as the O'Connor Christmas curse. Seriously every year either battery or alternator on one of our cars goes west, appears this one was alternator that took out cooling fans thus engine head gasket, daughter not too good on gauge checking, just rings to say the car won't go. Have any of you a similiar weird sequence that just seems to continue... I have taken the precaution of a full maintenance check on all vehicles, for the past 10 years,(to no avail) this one came back from just such a check 2 days ago...........AHHHHHH:mad:

Strangely enough every Christmas morning if you look closely enough at our roof you can see hoof prints in the snow.....

Oh Oh. You've caught me out. :o How did you know I celebrate Anti-Christmas? What with the chilly clime up here at this time of year we all look forward to all the coal we can get in our stockings. ;) To be sure Satan Claws is very generous with his ebony jewels for the more deserving. Unfortunately I don't seem to rate high enough. I keep getting computer or golf related gifts.

Would one of those 'gifts' perhaps be a bright red golf ball to use in the snow? :p :D

Jenae, I've been Jewish all my life and have never had that problem. Have you considered converting? :D

My 5 year old boy (Ben) is a big Star Wars fan and it always used to be the case that he played Luke and I played Darthg Vader.

One of his favourite scenes to act out is the one you have parodied (sp) above.

Anyway our second boy born earlier this year is named Lucas and we call him Luc for short.

Needless to say my eldest said well since he is Luc then I will be Ben Kanobi (Obi Wan).

I still get to be Darth Vader only now Ben is always saying "go on dad say to Luc, 'I am your father', because you are".

When we first named Lucas my dad asked if we had a George Lucas / Star Wars fascination naming one boy Ben and the other Luc(as).

He said to me, I guess that makes you Darth Vader........:rolleyes:

Actually the guy across the road from us always hates the Christmas / New holiday period because he always seems to have bad luck.

Last year was especially bad.

On Christmas day they went to family and realising they had left the presents behind he returned home to get them.

He left the engine running and the dog in the car.

The dog knocked the transmission into reverse and the car went straight across the road took out a mains gas connection and destroyed part of a wall of the house opposite.

His 10 minute trip turned into a few hours while emergency crews cam out to fix the gas line etc.

On New Years day he was involved in an accident in the family car.

On the 7th January he cut the tip of his ring finger off at the first knuckle using an electric eel (used by plumbers to unblock drains).

I happened to be home that day, because it was the day my wife was due.

I can tell you I'll never forget that blood curdling scream and the shout of "I've cut my finger off".

Being close friends with the family it was us that the daughter came to screaming for help.

Instinctively I just grabbed all the ice we had in our house and a zip lock plastic bag knowing that I was going to have to pick up and pack the severed finger.

Another neighbour arrived just after me and went and got a smaller cooler to put it all in when he saw what I was doing.

I was on and adrenalin high for about 3 or 4 hours after that and when I finally came down it really hit hard.

To this day the guy doesn't really talk about it.

In fact neither do I, this is the first time I've really opened up about it to anyone other than my wife

He hasn't thanked me directly but I know he appreciates what I did and the fact that I was there for him.

Luckily my wife did not go into labour that day and held of for 3 more days.

THINGS HAPPEN! You know how women are around cars?
It sound to me like they need some lessons on the up keep of cars!

usil, the only thing I am saying is, if I asked my wife to take care of her car a smart thing for me to do is buy a tow truck. That is why for Christmas the tools I buy her are pots and pans.

Sounds like you have a well trained housewife there. I guess thats the difference between our generations. If I were ever to give my wife pots and pans, I would end up in the hospital with a big red mark from the pan she used to punch me out with.

hmmm, seems like a simple case of "naughty vs. nice" to me. Maybe you folks just aren't livin' right? ;)

My parents were a bit 'radical' for their time, always protesting, got arrested once.

Anyway they raised us kids that Fathers day and Mothers day were just the capitalists way of making more money from the commercialism of consumerism and they would be moer than happy with a home made card or even just a hug, a kiss and an "I love you".

Even birthdays to a lesser degree were never a big deal.

Along the same lines the purchase of appliances, cookware etc especially for women was seen as sexist and derogitory, stereotyping people into specific roles.

They don't mention it much now, but when I was younger, they were always talking about the revolution.

My wife on the other hand was raised with the more typical mindset and I still find it hard to make a fuss of her on Mothers day, birthday etc and I always feel she is a little disapointed.

I actually bought her a set of pots and frying pan etc last christmas and she thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.
