[RESOLVED] "This Land" with Bush & Kerry

First, let me say that this may not be the place for this post. If so, I apologize and ask the moderator to reposition it.

Now to my "problem" ...

People at work would like to see the "This Land" parody with Bush & Kerry but we only have dial-up at work (& iWindows 98).

I visited http://atomfilms.shockwave.com from my home machine (XP HOME with cable modem) hoping to download it and bring it to work. I discovered that I could only "view" it. I surmised that it must have dowloaded a SWF file on my machine before launching and all I would have to do is find it, burn it to a CD and bring it to work for others to see.

I tried searching all files and folders (including hidden) but could not locate the SWF file.

Does anyone have any suggestions why this file cannot be found? It is not really saved on my drive before launching? Can it be found somewhere else? I have a bit torrent client ... is there a bit torrent file available?

zeszut--Viewed it, then did a Find for *.swf and found it in one of the alphanumeric subfolders in Temporary Internet Files|Content.IE5. Name is "this_land[1].swf", size 3.75MB.
If you deleted your TIF (cache), you would have deleted it.
Pretty funny, though I thought Bush's lyrics were much better than Kerry's.

Well, I see that "Good to Be in DC" is out as a SWF file. Again, I'm having the same problem accessing the file as downloaded on my computer. I can go to the site using Mozilla or IE and view the SWF. But when I do a search for all files containing ".swf", I don't see it.

I'm using XP. In the search function, I'm selecting "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders".

When I get the search results, I sort by size (assuming this is a large file) and date (assuming it would be saved with todays date). In both cases, no large or new SWF file appears.

Am I doing this search wrong or am I missing something obvious.

Welshjim says "If you deleted your TIF (cache), you would have deleted it." Is this something that is automatically done and so ereases this file?

SWF opener [freeware] should help you find it in your drive cache and save them elsewhere.

Thanks, 104456. I installed SWF OPENER but it couldn't find the file either. I already have software entitled FLASH MOVIE EXTRACT PILOT (though it doesn't sort the file as OPENER does) but it couldn't file the file either.

I believe it says it is a Macromedia Flash file.
The bad news is that it apparently does not download as a .swf file and I cannot find it searching for files Modified today, either. (I can find plenty of .swf files on my XP PC but nothing to do with this file.)
You can watch it for free, but there also is a box to Download for $2.95.

Ok., I don't pay the $10 for a DVD. What I did in both cases was simple: loaded the files which takes a while on a dial-up, played them and then went to the Temporary Internet Files in Explorer, sorted by file type, found the *.swf files and simply copied them to a folder of my choice. Can now play them at any time I want. Of course, shockwave player must be installed. Was pretty simple.

i hadn't planned on paying $10 for them. the problem i have is that i can't find the SWF file on my computer after viewing them on-line (see my earlier post in this thread).

i followed nomad's links and got the files.

great for you if you can SEARCH and find the files. for some reason i cannot.

Just to mention this: I di not mean to suggest that you buy the DVD. I also understood that that you could not find the *.swf with the search utilities. That situation is so that a search utility cannot find the *.swf because it is in the Temporary Internet Files folder which in other words is the IE Cache. Though you may see, using Explorer, individual files in the folder(s) in "IE Cache", in reality these files are in one big file, so a search utility cannot find the *.swf fille or any other for that matter in the Folder(s). The rest is then as I explained above. Hope this explains why the search could not find the *.swf.

zeszut, you may have your IE set to delete that cache everytime it's closed. Have you set your system to show hidden and system files? If they're hidden a search won't find them.

I was using Opera to view the file and found it in the Opera cache. Another possibility is Maxthon (formerly MyIE2) has a "Flash Save" plugin that'll grab the file as it downloads.

Edit: Ooops, I just tried to search for "content.ie5" (that's where it's at) and didn't find what I wanted. So I tried to browse to it directly, that didn't work either. (I'm set for all files to show and it's still not showing)

So I'm here at "C:\Documents and Settings\DVOM\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files". This is where it's at but it doesn't show. So, to the above address I added "\content.ie5" and hit "go".

That did it. I was able to view the contents of "content.ie5". I was able to cut and paste out of it also.

Geeez, M$ is a little overly protective of "content.ie5".

I use Flash Catcher, you can use it for free ten times.
