Flash add problems?

Today on a couple occassions I noticed poor response on VDR, hangs actually. Then I started getting popups from the flash player warning of excessive processor usage from a particular script running. It seems this script is related to the ad for the Centrino, where with the guy is looking at his notebook. I'm not sure this is the only one, but it is the worst. It causes very high and constant cpu usage.

Not sure if other's are seeing this problem? Regardless, some of the macromedia flash animations and/or their underlying scripts do seem to be sucking up a lot of processor cycles.

Followup... No question about it, that one Centrino (and there may be more) flash ad definately has a problem. It sucks up all available processor until I tell the script to stop running.

Delete the Shockwave Flash version you have in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
as it maybe corrupt and your browser will download a new version when it needs it. That should fix that problem.

I second what Train suggests. I too had problems with this ad, and after ridding myself of the old flash, I installed new version and all is well now. :)

Some security features on firewalls etc prevent it showing hence the "what ads" comment :D

I haven't got a firewall that I know of.

OK, I was curious so....

For the record, the problematic ad is this one here

The problem I reported was happening on certain machines I used. It turns out that the machines that had the problem were using version 5 of the macromedia flash plugin (this is the default that comes with say ie). I might well have experienced the problem with version 6 of the plugin as well. OS version or IE version didn't matter. In any case, where I had version 7 (whichever sub release) or upgraded to 7 the problem stopped.

Conclusion, this ad or its underlying script is relying on things specific to the most current version of the flash plugin. Not good at all if one happens not to have the latest version of the plugin installed (as it puts the cpu in to some sort of loop).

I've got 'em all blocked with Proxomitron, even the blue box "internet news" thingy with all the links is gone too so i don't need to scrool down half a page to read stuff, all i have when i visit this site is just what i want and nothing else... gotta love Proxomitron, allows you to tailer any site to add or remove anything you want... :)

yes good freeware program for ad removal.

Cant see the ad in the link though blank page :D anyhow I think I know which one it is as I had it appear on the VDR front once on an unpatched system.I thinks its java controlled if memory serves.
