Problem with EZTrust 6.1.3.1 SNOOZE

EZ Trust has a SNOOZE feature which is pretty nice to temporarily close the program BUT the other day and today when I used it, I got it to snooze. When I right clicked to "wake" the snooze didn't come up and EZTrust wasn't responding. I had to use c/a/d to close the program in order to reboot. This happened twice to me - the second time SNOOZE wouldn't come up at all, and on rebooting I got a BSOD fatal exception. I don't know if it's the program or something else going on with my computer, but I thought I'd mention it. Anyone else experience this? I never had any problems with 5.4 (although it didn't have this snooze feature).

Sorry to hear you had trouble with it Nancy.:( To tell the truth,i noticed the feature,but have never used it. I use End It All to shut running programs down. Or if i want to make sure eTrust is closed,i go to Options>real time protection and take the checks out and let it reboot. If nothing else comes of it, at least it may be a warning to others to stay away from this "feature?"...

I'm beginning to wonder if CA isn't getting a' bit carried away and adding "bloat" features that aren't needed...:rolleyes:

I usually use c/a/d but I don't know how recommended that is. I don't have the patience to change options, reboot, and then change options and reboot again.
Tech Support said EZ Trust may have gotten corrupt with the software I was installing. They recommended I remove it and go with 6.1.4. I've always liked EZTrust, but they're really going through a lot of versions lately. I did download EZTrust, 6.1.4 but haven't done anything yet.

Hi Nancy,,The three finger salute won't harm anything as long as you leave Explorer and Systray running(can shut-off Systray too but it doesn't hurt to leave it run). I only do the major shutdown if i'm installing a program that suggests to shut down running AV progs,cause like you say,it's a pain in the b*tt. :p

Was going to suggest you get End It All,,but after reading another post,i went to PC Mags site and sure 'nuff,,they are charging a subsciption rate of us$19.95 per year now. :( Just glad i got all the progs i wanted from them and saved them to disk a' long time back...:rolleyes:

Gettin' so there ain't nuthin' free worth having on the web anymore dang it! :mad:

Ridge & Nancy, You can still get EndItAll 1 at the link below. Most people prefer the older 1 version over the newer 2 version. If you want it better get it qucikly because a lot of sites no longer have it listed.

Thanks Ridge and Tufenuf. I just downloaded enditall from that link. Unfortunately, the link with directions on how to install it was a dead link. How do you install and run it? (Although I'm a little hesitant to install anything right now, I've been experiencing blue screen system is busy and fatal exceptions in the past few weeks - I think I'll post to the Windows 98 forum about it.)

Nancy,,could be they tried to link to PC Mag for install instructions and got zapped.:( Install is very easy,as with any other,just close programs,make sure no screensaver or whatever may kick-in and double click to install. Whether it asks or not,i always reboot after "any" install just in case. Don't remember if it puts an icon on your desktop by default(don't think so). But just open it's folder in program files it creates,right click on the icon(ugly headstone)and choose send to: desktop. Personally, i renamed mine to "suicidal" and use the lil' weird "bill-the-cat" icon instead.:p But that's just me...

When you use it the first time,it will have a padlock on itself(obviously)and Explorer-Systray. This means they won't be shut down. If,for any reason,there is another program it lists that you don't want to turn off. You just double click it on the list and it will be locked until you double click it again. I have a wallpaper switcher program that doesn't shut down,but needs to be "closed". If you have something similar,it will popup a box asking if you want to "close" the program. I choose the option: "yes,,and don't ask again" Really,,,that's what it says!:p

Try it, you'll like it. Less calouses on your "salute" fingers too...:)

Nancy, To install EndItAll just double click on the .exe file that you downloaded and to use it Double click on the Icon and click on Enditall.This will terminate all the running programs except Systray and Explorer. I don't have it on my current machine but used it on my old machine with good results.

Thank you both. I'd like to clarify something. I have BoClean. You can't use c/a/d to shut it down. So would I double-click on end it all and just double click on BoClean and it will be left alone?
And when you reboot, do all your programs come back, or do you have to open enditall again to put them back on?

Nancee, I would be concerned about the Blue Screens and Fatal Exceptions if they are suddenly more frequent. That's a good sign you've got something running that's in conflict with other programs. It is a common complaint from some users of AOL and was a common complaint of some users (including me) of earlier McAfee programs (I've heard nothing about the new McAfee 7.0 so maybe it works better). Perhaps Tuff or Ridge or someone else who is more computer literate than me can give you some ideas on what to look for but I suggest you try to figure out the cause...such program conflicts seem to escalate if not corrected.

Have you installed or upgraded any programs recently other than WINMX and EZ Anti-Virus?:eek:

Nancy,,I'm not familiar with BoClean. But,as i said,if there is a program that you don't want shut down,just double click it on EndItAll's list and it will be left running. You will see a padlock on it. And yes,,after you've done whatever you did to utilize EndItAll,just reboot and everything will startup as usual.

If you are having BSOD's, i think i would do a major cleanup of your system. This may not be the place to post it,but it pertains to problems that "may" be related to security/virus's. If you missed it before on the Win98 forum,this is the method and utilities i have used on Win98FE and SE with good results for over 3 years.

Of course the address i gave for End It All is incorrect(unless you want to pay,that is),ans i now rely on SpyBot S&D instead of Ad Aware,but that's your choice... Hope this helps a' bit...:)

Also,it comes to mind that HD Valet is also from PC Mag,so you may not have access to that one. But SpyBot does a pretty good job too...

I started a thread about this in the Windows98 forum. Unfortunately, I've installed a lot and upgraded a lot in the past couple of weeks:
Feb. 21 I removed IE6 and installed IE6 SP1. That night I got the system is busy blue screen while trying to bring up Spybot after using c/a/d. Used c/a/d again and got a black screen with white cursor. Had to use tower button.
Next few days removed aol adapter, everything in network, dun and removed winsock2 from registry. No problems there.
Feb. 27 installed EZTrust 6.1.3.1 - no problems.
March 3 - installed software for att.net - but it froze with registration server and EZTrust Snooze also froze. (Techs helped me just use dun and I removed the software).
March 9 - updated Spybot
March 10 - while online clicked on Spybot and everything FROZE, used c/a/d and got system is busy. Used tower button to shut down. Later on, shutting down got BSOD fatal exception OE at 0167:BFF9DFFF.
March 13 - installed Script Sentry, Cookie Jar and updated Macromedia Flash. - no problems
March 15 - installed WinMX - no problems
March 16 - used Snooze (first post) removed Spyware Blaster - couldn't unsnooze. Rebooted pc (EZTRust wasn't responding) In order to install new Spyware Blaster Snooze wouldn't come up so I used c/a/d. Upon reboot I got the BSOD Fatal exception mentioned above.
March 17 - while online clicked on Spybot and got hourglass. c/a/d brought up system is busy. Used tower button.
I just clicked on Spybot a few minutes ago. It took a few seconds to come up. I checked my resources - they went from 76% to 63%. I closed spybot.
Then I ran startuplist (which I posted on the 98 forum) and it says my registry integrity is not normal and it couldn't check it. Maybe Script Sentry does that? It does mention Script Sentry there.
I did too much in too short a period of time and now I don't know what to do. The EZTrust tech said EZTrust could have gotten corrupt with an install and to install a new one - but that doesn't address this system is busy when I click on spybot.
I ran docmem last week and it ran 7 or 8 loops - no problems, and I did a thorough scandisk and defrag last night and no errors found on the disk.
If anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it. LeBoule, you're probably right, there's a conflict somewhere I think.

And you're right, you don't want duplicate posts going but you'll have to decide (or the moderators can) which forum you want to use.

Possibilities are boundless but conflicts could involve AOL, SpyBot and Spyware Blaster. And another thing to consider is your IE 6 SP-1 installation or ATT.net install might not have been quite right for some reason.

I think I would uninstall Spyware Blaster, see if BSODS and exceptions cease, if not uninstall SPYBOT and see if they cease, etc.

Ridge, Tuff or somebody else might have some better ideas though.

Thanks for the link. I read it over. I have done some of the things you mentioned - used spybot, docmem, disk cleanup, thorough scandisk and defrag. I looked at the forums re reg cleaner - most of the posts are about the new tool jv. I'm afraid to use that reg cleaner at this time. If I get desperate I'll let you know. One thing, is it possible to install and run it without making any changes?

Thanks for your thoughts. It's hard to know what is causing the problem - it could be many things, but I did find out that if you installed Spybot from within the program there are issues. I don't have what should be in the program and I found out add/remove doesn't work right now (there's a work around, but I need to find out more before I try it.) Also, when I run it, it's using 23% resources and that's a lot.
I haven't had a BSOD since 3/16. I also haven't used that snooze feature. I also found out Script Sentry caused the registry failed check in StartUPList - I ran the newer version and it doesn't mention the registry check.
One good thing - this is probably short lived, but on AOL before I tried auto-download in EZTrust and it worked! Unbelievable.

I've had zero problems with the Snooze feature. I use it regularly. Sorry to hear of your problems with it.

I've just upgraded to 6.1.4 . I don't know what's been changed but it appears to run fine.
