Not so long back you were building a XP mod machine ,with a video card purchased from a boot sale,can we have the specs of this machine,as you did quote,will get back and let you know how it goes,or ive missed a thread if it was posted,nothing ventured nothing gained as the saying goes.Thanks for holding a back seat on some of the previous threads posted lately,so far this site of yours makes good reading,leaves the others standing why ??

limerick, i bought my first computer in '88, a compac 486, WOW! i could have sworn it came with xp.. looking at those screen shots brought back a lot of memorys, mostly bad.:)
That reminds me - Time to clean the heads on the cassette recorder that came with the Radio Shack TRS-80. One of these days I'll actually get that rocket ship to fly off the top of the screen.
Yes, it is indeed a lot of fun to look back at those days, and to think of your computing endeavors, both during, and since that time.
Believeitornot, yes I did build a new machine recently, and I am really loving it! I got an MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU mainboard, coupling it up to an AMD XP 2000+ chip. Added lots of RAM, big hard drives, and that Xtasy 5564 Everything video card that gives me such a great display! Being able to watch football as I compute gives me even more bang for the buck! :) I wonder if Mr. Gates ever dreamed that someday there would be these powerful machines like this, running his operating systems?
jman1980, my first computer was a Commodore 64 that I bought for Christmas of '82. (Got it as an "educational resource" for the kids.) Yeah, right! I fell in love with it, quickly learned how to program, and have had a burning desire to learn all I can about computing and computers ever since! Indeed we've come a long way since the $3000 Tandy machine that is mentioned at that link that this thread started with.

Actually my first computer was a Leading Edge Model D. At the time an IBM with 512 KB memory and one floppy drive cost $3,100.00 or $2,100.00, can't remember which but I think it was the higher price. The Leading Edge had 640 KB memory, extended graphics, and two floppies for $1,495.00 monitor was separate.

Excellent.
I came across a site a couple of years back that had C64 Emulation and various games.
Just seeing the names of the games took me back down memory lane.
I eventually bought the 5 1/4 inch floppy drive - I think it cost me more than the C64 itself.
Luckily I bought a portable colour TV instead of a monitor and it's still going strong. The C64 is holed up in my parent's attic somewhere I think.

Speaking of cost, my first hard drive was a 20 MB hard card for as I remember it $420.00. No way I could ever fill that up. Yeah right. I now have a 120 GB and a 60 GB drive and may eventually have to get another one. Graphics and sound sure eat the space pretty quick.
