Add mine. Not only do I dislike to squashed appearance of the forum and its contents, but the width keeps changing because the ads are different widths. I find it very jarring and unpleasant.Quote:
I think your going to get many many more complaints doing it this way though..
I may be the only one that feels this way, because another forum that I used to like a lot did a similar change. I tried to cope, but I just found it too jarring and gradually have found myself not using that forum much any more. I hate that the same might happen with this one (I habitually visit here a couple times per day) but my guess is that it will. Sigh.
Ditto. The side ad thing can work if the ads are narrow (eg discussions.hardwarecentral.com) and if most of the users are running at least 1024x768. If the ads are going to be variable size I'd much rather have them at the top and need to scroll down a bit further. This is supposed to be a forum, not a newspaper column. ;)
I agree that the ads were probably best left alone. It's extremely annoying! Couldn't you have put ads at the top of the page and not bothered with the huge WASTED area of the site....
Ok a bit late on this one but better late than never heh?
Ads: Yes, another vote to do something about them. Its ok if I Adblock the iFrame in FF, but annoying that I have to do that everytime. Maybe someone knows how to do it automatically?
Site Design: Brilliant. Not much to complain about, its nice to see this forum have features I have seen on others places for a while now.
I'm off to explore...then I have my A+ Hardware exam in like 45mins...
Ah, any chance more smilies can be added in?

This forum (www.cable-forum.co.uk) is running VBulletin 3.07, and I like this feature telling you how many posts have been made since you last logged in:

Thoughts?

I see the smilies are back to what they were on the previous version. Can they be changed and can you add more?
I don't see why users can't have the responsibility of changing their own subject.
About the ad taking up the whole right side. This is a disaster. For VDr I mean. Its visibly unpleasant. When new users come here, they want to feel comfortable with the design of the page. There is much more to computer technical forums than the help you get from the users. The design is also very important. VDr has taken a big step by upgrading the VBulletin version. I'd hate to see VDr take 1 step forward and two steps back. This is something that can only hurt VDr, not help it. As mentioned by many, the ad should be put up top, I don't think that would bother anyone. It should run length wise of the whole page, from left to right, and not be a perfect square that leaves a lot of white.
Registered users can change their titles.
I was refering to the subject of a post, not a users title.Quote:

Yeah because at home using 800x600 it's equivalent to 1/2 my screen being white space and that truly sux.
In fact I'm not even getting the ad at home (must be blocking it via my host file), but the whitespace is still there !!!!!!!!! :(
I believe this is your answer:

That ad will occasionally double in length, but the width won't grow larger (occasionally smaller). It's possible that we may add some more content below it to try to balance out the page.
In other words then the answer is the issue will not be worked. I think that is a mistake. Filling the blank space is not the problem for people BJ. It is that that whole area being there period causes an annoyance.
I understand your concern but thats going to be a trade off for upgrading our forum software. Im not saying that it's a great thing but it's something that we will have to get used to. Sorry, BJ.
When the ads were on top, we heard complaints about that. People didn't like scrolling down to get to the posts. You can find some of those complaints in this feedback section. So we moved them from the top, but gave up some width. I understand that users would like to see no ads at all, but without them there's no board.
