This is only a "little" bit off topic. Does anyone have the URL(s) for pictures taken in space, which can be d/l as screen savers?
Thanks,
Linda

You need the codec wich is at the kaaza lite site..via the "codecs" link at the site. You also have to select the format in MPC under View/Options/Formats.
I can play realmedia and this machine has never had realplayer of any version installed. :) lemme know if it works out for you.

It's a great program. You download all 6 or 8 or 10 (I forget) of the collections, install them all in the same directory, and then go in every day and get 5 more free photos. Lots of categories, including space pictures. Scenery, really beautiful scenery. Lots of nature pictures. Animals, dogs, cats, etc, etc. As an added bonus, you can, if you know how, put some of your own personal photographs into the screen savers. The program is configurable for all sorts of options, cycles, delays, etc.
Thanks Chuck and DuaneB. I'll check out both.
There used to be a NASA or astromony or Hubble site but I lost the URL. If I find this site I will post it. Every day they had a different outer space picture, which you could d/l the picture as you screen saver.
Thanks.
Linda
heres a good mars link/space=Quote:

I don't know how you could use these as screen savers, but, as I said before, you can put any pictures you have on your computer into the Webshots screensaver/wallpaper program.
I went to the Nasa site and saved several pictures and will put them into the Webshots later. Also, as I said before, the Webshots web site has several collections, including a Space collection, which I have, and they are very nice.
In addition, you can search the Webshots website for NASA and Space pictures.
Looks to me like the Webshots software can fulfill your every dream in your above request.
I'm seeing this Webshots software on nearly every computer I see out in public.
Here's the Astronomy Picture Of The Day:

GREAT link, Gerdog. Thanks.
You guys are great!

Great little reminder program set it and you wont forget it
Alarm Clock

Norton WinDoctor, which is a part of Norton SystemWorks. Awesome program. Anytime I install or un/reinstall software or make other major system changes, I run this program. You'd be surprised at the number of invalid shortcut, ActiveX errors, invalid file extension errors, etc. you will get on a fresh install of otherwise reliable software or even a fresh install of Windows. If you have this program, use it. It gets rid of all the little registry and file errors that freak Windows and apps out, causing system instability and crashes. Caveat Emptor. If you have an older version of Norton SW, as I do, you're probably better off choosing how to repair the error. WinDoctor usually chooses the correct option for the default suggested repair, but not always. You can undo repairs should something go askew if WinDoctor is correctly configured in options, but why tempt fate??
Here in one that is not mentioned , that is connection keeper (free) very good for those of you that use a dial up modem you'll find here: http://gammadyne.com/ it can be configured the way you like it you'll never get the boot from your ISP...
I must confess that I have not read all 20 pages of this thread, so if this has been mentioned already, I apologize.
The program is called IE New Window Maximizer and it can be gotten here. It is one of the most useful things I have come across.
A person would think that after all the versions of Windows that there have been, M$ would have been able to write an option to "open windows maximized" into their settings.
The one program I absolutely, positively, cannot do without, the ONE program I demand to be present on any computer I use is the operating system.
Try as I can, I cannot be happy when it is not present.
Hi after doing some searching I found what I believe to be the best FREE desktop, sys tray icon ,weather program. BAR none =no spyware,or adds many many feature's included.
Give Weather Pulse a try and let me know what Ya think.
Weather Pulse
Free Sygate Personal firewall from Sygate Technologies so Click Here Requires you to be on-line during the Sygate install for registration and,
Free SAproxy from Deersoft so Click Here to combat Spam for most, but not all, pop3 email clients. Configuration instructions manual is within the installed application. Right-click the System Tray icon. To set a different 'hit' level you simple take the # sign out of the start of the Required Hits line under the Rules tab in Configuration and highlight the default level (5) and type a new number. Shut down then restart SAproxy for the 'hits' configuration changes to take effect. 1.7 works best for me. Best free Spam killer I've tried
Best little popup killer in town.
Smart Popup Killer from Firstnetsoft so Click Here
Just install it and go - for Internet Explorer.
another usful small software System Tray
I have used it for some time and I am happy with it.

What I think is that WP is about as good as, actually better than, anything out there right now, altho it does currently have some stability and performance problems, that I thought I should clue in others to in case they run across this and give it a try...
First, there is another thread on this forum on WP and other weather apps, that you can search for to get some insight...
Second, if you install it, the first thing you should do is grant WP priveleges for net access in your firewall.
Third, reboot.
Then, and only then, should you attempt to configure settings.
Lastly, depending on your machine and connection and settings, you will likely experience some slowdowns and even stalls (just close it and reopen if it stalls...).
Bottom line, worth the effort if you like/need to monitor the weather...
I had a program at one time and cannot remember the name of it anymore. I have looked thru here and I know the name would jog my memory but I haven't seen it. I t was a sort of HDD explorer that gave a view of your HDD with the information in sort of "chunks". It was a sort of overhead exploded view of everything on the drive and would allow you to explore thru "levels" like folders. If anyone can come up with the name of this prog that would be excellent.
Thanks
Hey KEYWESTER, weather pulse is working great on my xp pro machine, did not have to do anything =install ,set up prefrences ,works good..

would it be Hard Drive tree or something like that?
no its more like an "overhead" view oo everything on the disk. I seem to be having a hard time explaining the prog, its kinda hard to describe. It would show a view that to the user, look like just basic blocks that would if looked at in a tree would be the folders. within these blocks were your subfolders and files. but with the way it was layed out was a sort of (here it is again) a type of "overhead view" of a explorer.
like i said, kinda hard to explain
There was a DOS program called Xtree. I don't remember if they ever produced a Windows version or not.
Is that what you are thinking of?
Linda
bchzd1:
Rather than "overhead", might you mean "hierarchical"? Maybe "cascading"? Kind of like an organization chart, that starts with the big incompetent bonehead at the top, with the VP's at the next level down, and then the worker bees at the bottom...
I seem to vaguely recall the same prog, but also am not able to recall the name of it...
the view looked something like this this is just not full screen (sorry, not too good at any graphics) but each individual folder of file would be the smaller squares as the larger would be a section of the drive and the entire picture was the drive. as you clicked each individual square it would allow you to explore further into the drive...folder or whatever you were looking for
oh here it is
keywester
exactly like thatQuote:

-leak test is good, i think its www.leaktest.com (tests for leak in firewall)
-avi preview in kazaalite (previews all video formats-even divx)
-kazaalite k++, www.kazaalite.tk (has more features than other versions)
-roxio easy cd creator 5 platinum (not free)
-norton antivirus, firewall, ad blocker, basically all norton stuff.
-g spot, think its just gspot.com but not sure (finds which codecs u need for videos if u don't kno)
-ad aware is good ( finds spyware etc.)
while i'm here does ne1 kno how to burn a cd with a image in iso buster
Bit sus your leaktest link.. ends up at www.uson.com a manufacturer of leak testing equipment for packaging ...
and G_Spot.. now that was fun search on google..
try here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
cheers
Hi!
Here's the correct link for LeakTest:

This goes back a' few days to what LindaHewitt was asking for concerning space pics. You can get the ones from 'Chandra' here:

And just like to comment about how interesting and informative this thread has grown to. Nice!!
A slight backstep on my previous recommendation for PowerQuest's Drive Image. As many may have seen in my post in the desktop hardware forum concerning DI letting me down. I now have to firmly recommend the Acronis 'True Image' program to replace PQ's DI...
http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/
Keep up the good work folks! :)

That little "IE New Window Maximizer" is pretty slick. You didn't tell us it works with OE and has a pretty good popup killer too!
I can't remember if I've posted on this thread or not lol... is this some kind of reacord?
I just discovered that IEMaximizer program, too - just plain super. A tiny little program that does exactly what you want it to do, with no fuss. Now ALL my IE windows are nice and big
My other favorite is Startup Monitor. It's amazing how many times QuickTime will try to worm into the startup list - sometimes just by viewing a web page
I'll toss Spybot S&D in here as well, even though it's not very small, I couldn't live (as confidently as I do now, at least) without it
Acronis TrueImage.
How about Sequoia View?Quote:
